Sorry my last post was in response to STEPHEN. By the way, I wonder whatever became of this lap steel. We have a reasonably good idea where most of his other instruments ended up.------------------

It's a Hofner, a cigarette lighter, and a backwards, wrong hand thumbpick...and a Glass onion behind, Koo Koo Kachoo, Kachoo, Choob Choob Choob

Brad, I am on your side. The body doesn't appear to be the same, but that bridge and pickup configuration and knob placement is identical to the pic on p. 136. I say Hofner, and as a huge Beatles fan I am sad to see that Lennon was so mixed up on his steel technique. Ryan

That may be a goofy photo... I don't think John was actually mixed up on his technique... the recording speakes for itself.... simple 12 bar blues slide technique ... but done very well by John.... and the plastic lighter gives the steel a damped string sound...

PS... Ringo's shuffle drum beat in the song really adds guts to it...just my opinion.... gear fab!

Steve Russell sends along this scan of a photo from an old Bell catalogue. The 5140 is obviously the top lap steel in the photo. ------------------
