I mean the Johnny Paycheck song. Was that Lloyd Green? Is that the steel sliding up to that low root note at the beginning and end? Did he do that by tuning the tenth string way down? Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure Jim Vest played steel on "Slide OFF of Your Satin Sheets."

Definetly Jim Vest. Really great stuff. I forget what the actual tuning is but ask Ernie Renn, he knows.

Frank,

You need to retune string 10 on your E9 neck to low A with pedal A down. Grab strings 6, 8, and 10 (with pedal B down), pick them and rock onto pedal A and you'll hear that sound. It's a very cool lick because you're pulling into a low root note.

By the way... I believe it was originally played on one of those plastic-fantastic steel pedal guitars!

Frank,
I beleive that lick was done by Larry (Wimpy) Sasser. He showed me how you detune the 10th string when he was on the road with Jerry Reed back in 76 or 77 and they came to Fresno. Please correct me if I'm wrong Larry.

Jim Vest recorded that riff on the Johnny Paycheck hit, Slide Off of Your Satin Sheets back in the 70's.

Hi Frank,

The steel on the Johnny Paycheck song titled "Slide Off Your Satin Sheets," was by Big Jim Vest.

The song was written and co-written by two guys right up the road from me.

Doug is right...when I called Jim Vest he said he tuned the low B to an F#; when pulled yields an A note...Pete.
