I found a Lloyd Green album on the UK HMV website called "Steels the Hits". It has 19 tracks including Crazy Arms and Moon River. Does anybody know anything about this album - when it was recorded/released etc. It was only on cassette and only cost £2.99 so I ordered a copy anyway but any info would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Matt

Hi Matt,

I have everything that I could ever get on Lloyd Green. He was the main reason I started playing the steel guitar.

The songs you refer to are from two different L.P.s that I have in my collections. You've stumbled onto a great buy, but sounds like someone has put the two albums. THe music from one album is titled "Moody River," the other I can't remember without diggin it up. Can't remember the title but shows Lloy standing near a waterfall and two dollies too. The steel is a double ten SHO-BUD on the cover of that album.

I know that Moody River was the hardest thing for me to ever locate. It was finally re-released on CD a few years ago.

Hope this helps. By the way why not join us at the Christian Steel Message Board website too its located at the following:

Cheers Terry. I've found the tracklisting for this tape. Here it is.

1. Misty moonlight

2. Ruby don't take your love to town

3. My elusive dream

4. Crazy arms

5. Too much of you

6. There goes my everything

7. Take these chains from my heart

8. Moody river

9. No another time

10. Moon river

11. Feelings

12. My love

13. Little bit more

14. You and me

15. Amie

16. Desperado

17. Kiss the moonlight

18. Edgewater beach

19. Stainless steel

I don't know if this stuff is still generally available but if not & people are looking for it we may be able to arrange some system for me to buy copies & ship 'em over to the States.

Does Lloyd Green get any royalties from this UK release?

When I was in Germany in '94, our fiddle player picked up a copy of this tape. Great tunes, don't remember who the distributor was.

He should do Bobby as the company producing the tape will have had to license the recordings (it's on a 'proper' label so it should all be above board). Of course it all depends on his contract with the record company the original recordings were made for. If his contract entitles him to royalties he should be getting them I presume.

The catalogue number begins with the letters PLAC which I think refers to label/distributor Prism who specialize in budget re-issues of older material (it's a few years since I ran a record store so my memory could be lying to me on this one).

Hi Matt,

Yes, I am back after school today I checked out my old L.P.s and the songs that you mention are from three Llloyd Green albums. They were originaly titled "Moody River," "Cool Steel Man," and Lloyd's "Feelings," album.

Cool Steel Man was recorded originally on the Chart Record lablel 1969. The Feelings album the most recent of those mentioned 1977. Moody River I believe was cut late 60's or very early 1970's. The Moody River L.P. was one I couldn't find a copy of for many years. In fact, I contacted Lloyd and he couldn't even get a copy of it. THen finally it was re-released on CD as were many of his earlier albums.

The one I want on CD are those titled Shades of Steel and Cool Steel Rides. Shades of Steel is my favorite of all of Lloyd's albums, but I was told by Lloyd himself that the Japanese take over of Sony which bought CBS has the rights to those L.P.s maybe they get wise and re-release them someday on CDs. It would be great for steel players. Shades of Steel is
my favorite and second is his Ten Shades of Green and it is available on CD. I recommend anything on steel by Lloyd Green. He's a great player, great guy, always was and always will be.

God Bless You,

Terry J. Wood
