Herb Steiner is the "official" horseshoe ring historian. He can bring you to light on it's mystical powers!

Watch out...I posted this same question a couple years back (in the pre-UBB days!!) and caught a ton of flack and ridicule. All I know is there's a reference by Jim Messina to the "brotherhood of those who wear the diamond horeseshoe ring" in his intro to Rusty Young's "Pedal Steel Guitar Handbook," and Jeff Newman has been know to sport such a ring. Damned if I know what, but there's something to all diamond horseshoe ring business, and you're a better man than I if you can get to the bottom of it.

Mystical powers? Vern's ring doesn't seem to be working at this juncture.

I had a diamond horseshoe ring like Vern's but it didn't help with the mystical powers so I sold it to Sam Tucker. Maybe it's the man, seemed to work for him.

My point exactly, Vern... You'll get a lot of happy horse**** about the diamond horseshoe, but nobody will step up and tell you what's what.

Geez, this ring is not exactly an example of "understated elegance" is it? Do they also come in rhinstones instead of diamonds to fit the budgets steelers with too many steels?

My reason for wearing one is too simple. My "Main Man" The BIG E was wearing one, so I figured it couldn't hurt, and might help. So I got one. Jody.

Many years ago, they were quite popular rings. I know they were big back in the '30s. And decades before that, "Diamond Jim Brady" was reported to have a mighty fine one. I did notice, however, that when I started playing steel (in the '60s) almost every good steel player (and a few "not-so-good") had one. I think it was a way to show that they were "doin' pretty good", and also it gave them something other than a steel, or an amp, to hock if they needed money fast!

Right on Donnie, that is exactly what I used mine for. I played steel for a guy name Sammy Tucker and was always having to borrow money to get by at times. He always liked the ring and he eventually ended up with it. After I got a real job I tried to buy it back and he said he had lost it. They are kinda hard to find now.

Charlie, if you're still interested, e-bay always has a dozen or two of these listed!
