Earlier this year, a thead came up about Dutch steeler Koos Biel ( http://www.b0b.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/009281.html ). Today, I received an e-mail from his brother Jelle, pointing the way to his internet broadcast on live365.com. I can't stop listening to it. It's an assortment of jazz tunes from various recordings and live performances. Outstanding playing! Go to: http://www.live365.com/cgi-bin/directory.cgi?autostart=steelguitarjazz

I certainly hope we get to hear more from Koos in the future.

Koos is a great talent, no doubt about it. Well worth hearing.

Koos is indeed a great talent. I last heard him play at Gerry Hogan's British Steel Festival with Nils Tuxen in the mid 80's. They both played great! Bob

I'll never forget meeting Koos at Scotty's in '77- I was just starting out on steel and he took the time to talk to me and show me some stuff I was having trouble figuring out. (I think we were both equally blown away by B.E.'s masterful set there!) Just a super guy, and a fine player even back then. I wish him lots of luck and I'd love to hear from him.

Unfortunately my computer won't play the musical link, but I remember Koos and some of the great ideas he would come up with. I hope he is doing OK, and I'm looking forward to hearing his recordings. He is a fine musician.

Koos was playing an Emmons tune at the '76 convention and in the middle of it, Buddy brought his guitar out and played along with him.

John,

I sat on the first row of that convention when Buddy sat next to Koos and Koos played "Blue Jade". What a nostalgic mmoment that brings back to me. Thanks for telling what year it was. I had long since forgotten.

Incidently, Buddy finished his "classic" tune, when it was apparent that Koos was so nervous he could hardly continue. What a nice thing for Buddy to do for a protege'.

Jelle Biel, Koos' brother just sent me 4 CD's, three of which are Koos's. Unbelievable how this man has progressed over these years. I know of NO man on earth that had captured almost every nuance of Buddy's playing like Koos has.

If there is such a thing as a clone, Koos is truly BE's clone. Wow. What a player.

The 4th CD is all Buddy when he recorded in California. I assume it was during the years Buddy live out there, but I don't know this to be a fact. But some of the recordings depict Buddy being able to "chicken pick" as ONLY Buddy could do it back then. NOT being critical at ALL, but age does take its toll on our dexterity. I am sure Buddy would be the first to admit this.

He is still the greatest player who ever lived or ever will........

God bless Koos and Buddy,

carl

I think Koos at one time(1977) may have been cursed with the Buddy Emmmons clone thing. When I was at the 1977 convention the buzz was how this Dutch kid played a lot of Buddy's tunes. I do remember he played a bunch of Emmons stuff during his set. This has nothing to do with his ability just my memory of his appearance there. Pete.

To me, Koos is the best player Europe ever came up with, and is a very nice person too!
Still a hero!!! (I know Koos is lurking sometimes )

I, too, was struck by Koo's playing in those
days. He and I unboxed and setup a (just
delivered) new Emmons in one of Scottys student rooms, at the store.
I inquired about him here about a year ago and was advised that he had given up playing
the steel.

Another player from those days whom I can't
remember the last name, was a 'red headed'
fellow from Germany, RED ??. He had just
stopped in on his way back from Australia.
