My name is Ricky Calmbach and I am a brand new country singer/songwriter from San Antonio, TX. I recently had the priviledge of working with a steel player by the name of Randy Reinhard. He did all of the steel work on my album. I know that alot of the Nashville pickers know Randy, but I wanted to say that his work on my album was genious. His creativity and traditionalism was what made my album possible. There are some fine pickers in this area, but I believe that Randy has a unique style that takes you back to the greater days of country music and at the same time gives a fresh, new feel. His work with Bobby Flores on the fiddle and Peter Carey's work on lead guitar created a synergy that is extraordinary. To anyone in that reads this, know that Randy Reinhard has some of the best hands in the business... -RC

Oops! I responed to this same post in the Pedal Steel category before I realized it was here too. (Sorry, Bob) But hey, I feel so strongly about what I said there I'll repeat it here:Ricky, I could not agree with you more about Randy Reinhard. He is a masterful musician, and has the magic in his hands that few on earth possess. As for Bobby Flores, he was in the studio today, like he is many days. He plays on just about everything here that I ever cut. He makes what I do such a pleasure. Sorry if I'm gushing, but you really struck a nerve here. The whole world should really know about these guys. They are just that good. Really. These guys are my heroes. The truth bears repeating....

Randy Reinhart (sp?) has been a really great steeler for over 25 years now. Former husband of singer Barbara Fairchild (of Teddy-Bear song fame), he is remembered for jamming, and swapping steels with Big "E" at the I.S.G.C. conventions, back in the '70s. While we haven't heard much from him lately, it's good to know he's still pickin'.

backporchband - I spent two years on the road with Bobby Flores, and in my book, "they don't come any better". He is a very gifted and talented musician, but he is also a very nice guy and he has a personality that makes anyone who meets him like him instantly. If you see him, please tell him that Jody Cameron has a fine Cuban and a glass of scotch on the rocks with his name on it down in here Houston!

Hey Ricky, where can I get a copy of your cd, Randy is a long time freind of mine and you're absolutely right about his talents, there's no end to them. Did he do the session using OLE # 9 ? that's an old black Emmons that he has. He's also a killer piano player, use to work with Charlie Pride some years back. Tell Randy Hello for me when you see him.

From time to time I am always amazed at the city I live in, and the talent that lives right here with me! It is really kind of a mind blowing thing to be in the same place with players like Randy Reinhard, Bobby Flores and many others. (And there are so many more good players here that It is frightening)We all seem to have a job on any given Friday or Saturday night if we want one, so we unfortunately don’t run across each other as often as we would like to. Every year or so I am lucky enough to turn up on a bandstand with these guys. They always have a good word to say, shake your hand and tell you how well you played (even if you didn’t!), and everybody enjoys the job. San Antonio is a pretty fun place to live. By the way, don’t let Tommy Detamore’s humble post’s fool you. He is right up there with Randy and the rest of the great players in this city. I think I need to go practice now…or they may ask me to move to some other place! B. Bailey Brown

Someone once told me that Randy is the guy who first used the F#->G# (1st string) raise.

Looking at the liner notes on my "Charlie Pride Presents The Pridesman" album from 1973, Randy says his piano style is "country piano", but it is a little different because he tries to play it "like a steel guitar." I was always impressed with his piano work on the LP, but didn't realize he played steel also!Charlie Pride had some dynamite players over the years, several becoming stars on their own.

By the way, Randy is playing steel on the first two CDs (Frenchie Burke and Dugg Collins)recorded on my new record label, Startex records. I'll keep the board posted on release dates but I can promise you will love them! Best wishes, Jim

Randy is also a great piano player. The last time I saw Randy perform was at Scotty's Convention years ago. It appeared to me that he knew ever lick Buddy Emmons ever played. At the time he was married to Barbara Fairchild. At that time she sang her big song "Teddy Bear" at Scotty's Convention. By the way, "Teddy Bear" was written by Nick Nixon. Nick Nixon was a hero in the St.Louis area. At that time period Nick was playing with Wally Murphy over by the Airport. All I can say is-- What a band! Wild and wooly Wally Murphy. We used to drive from Springfield, 259 miles one way, just to listen to them.

Keith, Scotty took me around to a few clubs in '76 to see Wally play with Nick. Great band and Wally of course blew me away with his aggressive playing. I also remember Randy. Another great player.
