So when I signed up with PSGA, they sent me a cool yellow decal. Except upon closer inspection, I noticed the PSG on the logo was a double, not a U12. What's up with that? ------------------ |

TJ- don't take it personal. It's a "historical" thing. And the majority of the PSGA members probably DO play double necks. Heck I still have one...even play it sometimes. as far as "neck envy"- just remember, that although others may have two, yours is WIDER... BTW how is it comin with the Fessy? Makin' progress? Whats a 12 string?? I was at the Plant City (Fl) steel show this weekend and didn't see a 12 string. There was one LDG Sho-Bud and one Single neck Emmons, on a double body, and the rest were D-10's. |

I must be going backwards. After decades of playing an S-12, I've ordered a new D-10! So now the PSGA logo suits me just fine. (Except that it has too many pedals. ) ------------------ |

When the PSGA was formed in 1973, 9 out of 10 players owned D-10's, and most of the professionals played D-10's. When Winnie Winston designed the logo for us we settled for the D-10 for those reasons. Over the years the single neck has gained popularity, is less expensive than a D-10, and in the case of a U-12, can replicate the advantages of the D-10, tuning wise. I've recently been playing a U-12 and have really come to appreciate having the 6th and 9th tunings on the same neck. It's less wear and tear on the aging player (me). Will we change the PSGA logo to reflect the single neck instrument? Not likely. Once you have established a logo for 28 years it would not pay to change it. Beside which the costs would be prohibitive. Bob Maickel [This message was edited by Bob Maickel on 22 January 2001 at 10:28 AM.] |

How 'bout a "gearless U14" logo? Now, that would really be a great logo!! Who knows, it may even start a trend in "stage yachts" Keep on pickin'! [This message was edited by Glenn Suchan on 23 January 2001 at 09:48 AM.] |

Hey all you guys,,,,,Bob Maickel is working on a newer logo than the D 10 or U 12,,,he is paying tribute to all the non pedal players like me ,,,his logo will incorporate a Fender Triple Neck Stringmaster.. The delay is we dont know what "tunings" should be displayed on the guitar,,,,any suggestions?? Bob Maickel has been an innovator re steel guitar,,,known him 50 years,,,has done much for all of us guys,,,I take my hat off to Bob for the popularity and exposure he has brought to the Northeast in particular,,,by bringing steel players of supreme talent to this area,,,Bob,,,you are not old,,,,,,you are like a set of strings that have just been broken in,,,like they sound great,,,PS I have every decal since the start of the PSGA,,,,I like it the way it is, but if you change it,,,put a FENDER Stringmaster on the Logo,,,I'll give you my "secret tunings" but dont tell all these guys .Bob what brand of Volume pedal is on your Logo ???? is it a 250K or 500K pot. |

Jody: I'll never reveal my "Secret Tunings"! Jay: Take your PSGA decal collection to the next PBS Antiques Road Show. They might be worth a lot of $$$ |

Hey you guys out there,,,,have you just been awakened by the fact that Bob Maickel has been out there for years building his PSGA? seems to me something is wrong if you are not aware of the work Bob has done over the years,,,ever try to get the steel guitar popular on the east coast with all the" snobs" who turned their noses up at a (whats that thing)? steel guitar)???? Yet he kept trying starting out in a garage years ago,,,trying to form a group of guys to help form a club,,,not an easy task my friends,,,ans some people are taking issue with his decal?? c.mon get real this guy has been busting his butt for years,,,,when do we appreciate his efforts after he is gone? I for one have supported his efforts for years,,,,he and he alone bar none is(no pun)was responsible for the popularity of the steel guitar back here on the east coast. If any of you people wear hat hat,,,,take it off for Bob,,,he deserves it,,,this is "not a paid political announcement but the facts of life,,,,he helped me promote Fender guitars back in the early 50's when many of you were not even born,,,,,lets get born again and say thanks to Bob,,,, I always do and mean it too,,,,SO THERE Ive SAID IT AGAIN one more time THANK YOU BOB MAICKEL and put a "tag" on that ending too. Jody Carver a Bob Maickel fan and PS so was Leo Fender aware of Bob's efforts,,, I always let Leo aware of Bob's work,,,,Leo appreciated it,,why shouldnt we????? |
