![]() ![]() I'm listening to a new Speedy West recording put out by Jasmine Records - "There's Gonna Be A Party" (JASMCD 3515). It's advertised as "Speedy West featuring Jimmy Bryant", as Mr. Bryant doesn't appear on all tracks. The 30 tracks are taken from Tennessee Ernie Ford's show, where during each show Speedy West was given a solo tune on which to shine. Mr. Ford introduces each song, with a bit of back and forth talk between the band and him. It sounds like a very relaxed series of sessions. Of course, the music is just sensational. Sound quality is quite good, although the tracks are mono only. If you enjoy this kind of music, it's highly recommended. ------------------ |

![]() ![]() Woohaaa, sounds good to me. Brad, when were those tracks recorded?, obviously they were around mid 1950s recordings.. wow they have got me all fired up! Thanks for sharing the news. |

![]() ![]() I got this album on my trip to England over the new year. Jasmine also have a Hank Thompson album out called In the Mood For Hank. I think Jasmine is a budget price label, they were both pretty cheap for English CDs. Unfortunately they don't have a lot of information about the recordings, all you get is a short biography of the artist, no information on recording dates or personnell, or any of the other stuff. The Speedy album is great though, wild stuff. |

![]() ![]() As Steve says, the liner notes are minimal. Paul Pelletier's notes say that Billy Liebert plays piano and/or accordion, Harold Hensley plays fiddle, George Bruns plays bass, and Billy Strange plays guitar, but there's no indication as to when these tracks were recorded. This is specifically what it says: "On this collection, Speedy West seems very much at home during the amiable interplay with Tennessee Ernie Ford, and of whose band he was a key member during 1950s pre-recorded broadcasts." ------------------ |
