I know it's probably been commented on before but, who besides me enjoyed this LP?

You can buy this album from Germany's excellent steel player Nils Tuxen. His address: Nils Tuxen, Reiherhorstweg 6A, 21220 Seevetal/Germany, or call: +49(Germany) 410580533. Tell him I said 'hello'.

This is one of my top three favorite and IMHO one of the best all-steel albums ever recorded. It was way ahead of its time when it was released in the late 70s, extremely well produced, arranged and recorded, and contained really interesting songs - not just the usual rehash of PSG instrumentals (fill in your least favorites here). For those who don't know, it featured three steel players: Nils Tuxen, Koos Biel, and Jean Yves Lozach all playing pedal steels together at the same time. It was original music, the arrangements were carefully done, and the vinyl version released in the 70s included a book of tablature for the songs. Quite a deal. I saw them play in St. Louis in '78 (I think) and it was one of the best shows I ever saw there. Very cool and far ahead of the curve.

Nils is, like SOOO many other great steel players DANISH !! And I'm proud of that !! You can borrow him all you like, but he's DANISH all right ! OK, I'll rest my case !! Heiko, I'm just kidding of course. Nils is a super steel player, and a wonderfull person, and the "United .." album is truly great and, as stated, very advanced for the time of it's release. Ole

I completely agree with Mark Tomeo. What's better than a fiddle? Twin fiddles or three. What's greater than a pedal steel? Two or three when arranged in full harmonies and voicings like United Steels. the album made me a Tuxen fan. I also stay up late at St. Louis to hear Hicks and Crawford do some twin steel.------------------

Frank, the tone of this thread seems to imply that there is but one 'US of E' album. Are you aware that there are two? The first came in the mid-to-late 70's and was, I believe self-titled. The second came out in the late 80's or early 90's and is called 'Divine Lines'.[This message was edited by Russ Wever on 13 April 2001 at 12:27 AM.]

Yes, the Divine Lines CD has Nils Tuxen, Andre Sommer, Koos Biel and Gerry Hogan all playing steel.I saw Gerry Hogan playing last week with Albert Lee - as good as ever.
