Can't do it. Too many variables and personal opinions. I could say what I thought and the next one can say what they think, and it will go on and on, as it usually does when this question is asked. Sorry for the wise a$$ answer but this question always generates many (different) answers. |

Well Dicky, most new pro-model guitars play pretty good. But, if you really like the Emmons sound, then get an Emmons and be done with it! |

To me the Legrands don't sound as much like the PP's as does the Derby's or the late model JCH.At least mine don't.Check with Sonny Garrish or J.D Maness(sp).Just my 2 cents worth.-------bb |

Welcome to the Forum Dicky - Been wondering where you were these days. Who are you playing with, and where? |

Hi Dicky, I have a LeGrande III with 19,000 ohm single coils and it is very close to the 70's and 80's push pull sound and it plays very nice! Also, the counterforce does work. Dicky, I have a better idea. Why don't you approach the Emmons company with the concept of a Dicky Overby model that would have two holes in the front and back of the cabinet with a release mechanism that would allow you to strip the rods in minutes and convert it to a wagon. You could have four old Buick rings inserted in the axle holes until you were ready for the conversion. All seriousness aside, in answer to your question, the two Legrandes I have are different in sound due to the pickups, but as close to my two P/Ps sound as any brand I've tried. I'd sell you one of them but they're not yet wagon worthy. Love ya, and take care. Buddy |

hi Dicky...i too like the sound of the Legrandes..in addition to Buddy's.....Dave Robbins has a Legrande 3 that has a sound very reminiscent of the push-pull... or... you might try to find an EMCI.. mine with E-66's is quite close to a p/p imho... btw...was that "Radio Flyer" model a 2 or 4 wheel drive ???..Good to see you on here Dicky.. & you too Buddy..MC [This message was edited by Mike Cass on 23 April 2001 at 01:15 AM.] [This message was edited by Mike Cass on 23 April 2001 at 01:18 AM.] |

I was hoping my message to Dicky would get him to tell the story behind the wagon wheel steel. So for anybody out there that has hated themselves for getting rid of a great guitar, here's an interesting piece of history that Dicky and I both lived to regret: Years ago, thinking all Emmons guitars should sound the same, I sold the Emmons P/P I used on the Touch My Heart album to Dicky. Later, after he sold the same guitar to someone else, he realized he had made a mistake and went on a mission to track the guitar down and buy it back. His search ended in somebody's driveway where the owner had gutted the guitar, drilled holes in the cabinet, and turned it into a wagon. |

Dicky!! What a surprise! I heard you were actually going to get “online” someday, and I am glad to see you finally made it. To answer your question the best way I know how, I would say talk to Carson Wells up in Kerrville. I would also go along with the “EMCI” suggestion. Although I never owned one, or even played one, their reputation as a fine instrument is well known and seldom disputed. There are still some around in good shape. Carson bought the extrusions from the defunct EMCI company and builds what I would call a “modern” version of that guitar. He has made some improvements on it, and while not identical, it is about as close as you can get nowadays. I always loved the Emmons “sound”, but never really cared that much for the guitars. Probably because I was not good enough to duplicate that “tone”. (Sorry, I still haven’t figured out how Buddy’s hands work…other than VERY WELL!) Several years ago I bought a guitar from Carson and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. It is a sweetheart to play and has the rare ability to make even ME sound about halfway good! If you need some contact info for Carson shoot me an email (bbrown@stic.net) and I will be glad to get you what you want. Or, if you would like to get together I will be happy to let you play mine (I think it is set up sorta like yours) and see if you like it. B. Bailey Brown |

THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO TOOK TIME TO SAY HELLO AND GIVE ME YOUR OPINIONS ON THE GUITARS YOU ARE PLAYING AND WHY. I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN BACK TO YOU SOONER BUT I LOST MY INTERNET CONNECTION WHEN THEY CHANGED LOCATIONS. A SPECIAL THANKS TO BUDDY EMMONS FOR HIS TAKING TIME TO SAY HI,ALTHOUGH HE DID BRING UP ONE OF THE WORST THINGS THAT EVER HAPPENED TO ME.NO,HE DID NOT MAKE THIS STORY UP IT REALLY DID HAPPEN.I CAN'T IMAGINE THE LOOK I MUST HAVE HAD ON MY FACE WHEN HE TOLD ME HIS KIDS WERE IN THE BACK YARD PLAYING WITH THIER NEW WAGON. TO ME RAY PRICE HAS NEVER DONE ANYTHING BETTER THAN THE "TOUCH MY HEART ALBUM" THERE WAS NO UNESSARY CLUTTER ON IT. THERE WAS JUST BUDDY,TOMMY AND GRADY FOR BACKUP.WHAT A GREAT SOUND. WHAT A PRIVELAGE TO HAVE HAD THAT GUITAR. NO I'M NOT OVER THIS YET! THANKS AGAIN ALL OF YOU P.S. YOU MIGHT WANT TO CHECK OUT THE TOPIC: |
