Maybe this has already been answered on the forum but does anyone know who played the steel guitar on the songs "Can't Help Falling In love With You" and "Rock-a-Hula Baby" by Elvis. Thank you, thank you very much.

Myself, Jimmy Day, Sonny Trammel, and I believe Felton Pruitt did some live shows with Elvis during his Louisiana Hayride days. I don't think any of us ever recorded with Elvis. Jody.

Thanks Dicky, I was thinking it was the "A" team on those sessions. I enjoyed your work on Hank Jr. and Friends album back in 75'-76'. Jody, did you ever get to back up Webb Pierce, or did he bring Sonny Burnette?

Maestro JIMMY DAY played for a short while with ELVIS at one point, around the Lousiana Hayride days... not for long, but for sure. but not on the cuts in question.

Actually I'd like to milk this some more.Jody, I really enjoyed your post, yes Elvis did play with everyone you mentioned on the Hayride. Very cool. There's a story that Jimmy Day got offered a gig with Elvis in late 1955 but declined as he thought it wasn't quite his thing. I feel that RCA could have almost taken elvis into country if they hadn't decided that there was still a few bucks left in rock 'n' roll. Boy they were right with Elvis. Smiley, yes John Hughey work with Elvis, on his 1969 Memphis sessions at Chip Moman's American Studios (where the Box Tops albums were all recorded with the same studio band, except Mr. Hughey). We're talking the 'Suspicous Minds' era. I'm not sure how much John is on, but I love those recordings.

Perhaps Jimmy Day could have made PSG an essential part of rock & roll music at that fairly early stage of its development. We'll never know.John
