Thanks Baz, those are Kilima Hawaiians recordings with Coy Pereira and Frans van Oirschot or Frans Doolaard.
Some of the song names have been mangled a bit.

Baz, do you know what guitar Henk is using?
It seems to have little sustain, or maybe he is using a flat bar?

I'm not Basil and he might correct me here but I think that Henk uses a Gibson BR9.He was when I saw him last time.He plays it through a Fender Twin silverface with almost no reverb he swithces with a footpedal for reverb. He uses no volumepedal.
Henk plays a round bar that has two round tips.I think its 5/8 or 6/8.He told me that that bar gives him more opportunity's to play faster.

I found a photograph of Henk Braaksma's band and it looks like Henk is holding a Gibson BR6.

The situation with the Dutch renaming the songs has a twofold origin,
1. During WWII and the German occupation of the Netherlands, speaking the English language was verboten, so the bands who played Hawaiian music sang the 'Happa Haole' songs in (Pidgin) pidgeon Dutch/Indonesian as opposed to the pidgin English lyrics. The song titles were translated phonetically and thus got bastardised.

2. I won't name the first culprit, but from very early on in the Dutch/Indonesian Hawaiian music scene, there has been a reluctance to pay the correct dues to the real authors of the songs, sometimes just plain plagiarism for egos sake, but mainly to circumvent royalty payments. It is now an established tradition, much like the way country and bluegrass "Borrowed" for the Celtic sources, though in their case more often than not, the tunes weren't copyright.

You only have to look at some of the titles on the Dutch albums to realise just how far this has gone, even Aloha Oe has been credited to various Dutch players/Composers ?.

as a 'For instance' the album 'Beautiful Hawaii' (Heartbeat 2609262) has
Honolulu March
Aloha Oe

Sarina
Goro Goro Ne
Hilo March
Beautiful Isle of Somewhere

Terang Bulan
Nina Bobo
Ajoen Ajoen
Hukilau Song

Mama
Pua Ika Lani
Muana Kea

Blue Wahine
Imiau-Ea-auwey
Sophisticated Hula
Mine-Ha-Ha

Little Lani Joe
Maori Chimes

Sari Nande

ALL credited as Trad. Arranged H Dussen..

This discussion of Dutch, Indonesian and other steel players prompted a friend (WP)of mine to check his steel guitar collection just to see what he had.

It turns out that he has 123 LPs featuring Jan Marna, Harry Hougassian, The Kilimas, Rudi Wairata, Geo DeFretes, Coy Pereia, Gibama Hawaiians, Frans van Oirschot, Frans Doolard, The Mena Minstrels, Amboina Serenaders, Rudi van Dalm, Wout Steenhuis, DeGroot, Frank Valdor, Marcel Bianchi, Gino Bordin and E VanVoort..

These players are on labels such as Deese, AFA, Artone, Bassarola, Capri, Carrere, CNR, BASF, C.B.S., Decca, Delta, DOM, Discofoon, Double Up, Dureco, EMI, First Class, Fonrana, GIP, Golden Lion, Grand Gala, Halter, Harmony, HEP, Imperial, Iris, Jelmar, Ktitos, Lowland, Majot Minor, Maple, MFP, Mode, Mondo, Omega, Philips, Polydot, Popular, Weltmelodie, Discaro, Columbia, Primaphom, Regal, Roots, Sonoprese, Studio 2, Telstar, TIP, Trent, Tulip, Tone, Vogue and Warwick.

Anybody recognize these labels?

He also has a few LPs of South African steel players.

This has become a very interesting thread.
Aloha,
Don

Basil,

Why is it that you always want to strike the Dutch people down? You please tell me that.We had a big arguement on the British Steelie Asociation a year and a half ago.I know you have not forgotten that. The fact back then was that you atacked me because I was not spelling right. You received numerous comments on your post on that forum. Is there anything that the dutch people have done to you?If so then please tell me.I'd like to know.
Further more....you are talking about royalty payments.

Ok let me get started on that matter. You have a website and you put up people's cd's without them knowing about it.Don't try to tell me that these people do know because they don't.I think that there are a number of people that are very interested to find out which albums were on your website.Rest asured....I will not tell this. But I do know two people that downloaded almost 10Gigs with steelguitar and Hawaiianmusic from that site.
Right now you put up Henk Braaksma's cd.I know for a fact that you never asked him.He is a good friend of mine.

Do you pay royalty's for that

Guess not huh?

Did you pay royalty's for all those other albums?

I know that you hate Dutch people Basil. But like my grandma used to say....

If you don't have anything nice to say about people....be sure they are out of the damn room.

Brad do me favor and close this topic.I'm sick of hearing how bad the Dutch people are.I am almost an American citizen but I will never betray my heritage.
