![]() ![]() Sho-Bud Crossover D-10, 6 pedals, 1 knee lever (RKL). Blond maple finish. It's set up to E9 and C6, and the crossover mechanism switches the pedals and lever from one neck to the other. All original parts, never modified. I don't think this guitar was ever gigged much, because both the guitar and case are in really good shape. It's a classic. Price: US$900 ------------------ [This message was edited by b0b on 10-03-99] |

![]() ![]() So, what does the one KL do on the E9? Raise or lower Es? How well does the crossover mechanism actually work? Do the changes stay in tune on both necks simultaneously? Got a photo you can post? |
Bobby Lee Sysop Posts: 14849 |
![]() ![]() Yes, the crossover mechanism works fine. The key thing to remember is not to have any pedals engaged when you throw the lever, else you'll "pop the clutch". The changes stay in tune, but there's some noticable string hysteresis on the low strings of the C6th. I think if I were going to continue using it, I'd remove the lowers from those changes. The knee lever lowers strings 2 and 8 on the E9th, and string 3 on the C6th. It's very easy to switch the changes around on this guitar, because there are no bell cranks to move. Just loosen the set screw on the collar, pull the rod out, put it back into a different changer hole, then attach the collar and tune it up. The changer is single raise, single lower, so if you need two raises on a string they have to share a rod. This is the same model that Michael Douchette uses. It looks just like the picture on his web page at www.b0b.com/tunings/douchet.htm . ------------------ [This message was edited by Bobby Lee on 10-04-99] |

![]() ![]() Hi Bobby, I had one of those crossovers back in the 70's .I played quite a few weekends with it. It's all anyone really needs when you get down to the basics, It's heavy but aren't they all? Listen to Jeff Newman's "music to steel by" he used only one knee lever the Eb's. About the changes, I Liked one thing about those old shobuds, you can put put more than one raise or lower on a rod, as Bob, says. No real limitations like on the usual double or triple changers..A good guitar ahead of it's time..al |

![]() ![]() These pictures were warped a little bit by Porter's sheet-feed scanner, but they do give you an idea of what the guitar looks like. ![]()

![]() ![]() Nice looking guitar, b0b! (dig that wood panelling, too!) ------------------ |

![]() ![]() That's actually a carpet, Dan. The day I walked into Porter's rumpus room, I knew that he was born to steel. The man has a rug that looks like wood paneling - what could be more perfect! ![]() |

![]() ![]() I also had a Baldwin the same color as yours for my first double neck. I modified it by adding three knee levers and hooking them up to the last three pedal linkages. I ended up with 3 pedals and 4 knee levers working the E9 neck and 4 pedals and 3 knee levers working the C6 neck. This was in Maine in the early 70s. If anyone knows where this guitar is now I'd be interested to know. ------------------

![]() ![]() Is this the guitar you picked up in St. Louis in '98, Bob? If so, didn't you just beat someone out for it? I vaguely and maybe wrongly seem to recall Tommy White being interested. Do you recall? (Or was it someone else or a different guitar or never mind I'll just go away now.... |

![]() ![]() Yes, this is the same guitar. I haven't talked to Tommy White about it recently, but I assume if he's still interested he'll answer this ad. |

![]() ![]() bOb, Yes,I would like to purchase the crossover, but I must sell my Emmons push-pull first. So,if it is still available after the sell of my Emmons, consider the Sho-Bud sold. T.W. |

![]() ![]() How tough would it be to add a couple more knee levers to it. What do you think, maybe you got it covered below? |

![]() ![]() LKL would be pretty easy because there's plenty of room at that end. Others would be rough in my opinion, because things are sort of cramped under there with the crossover linkage and all. |
Herb Steiner Member Posts: 6119 |
![]() ![]() As I recall, Mike Cass added two extra knee levers to a Crossover recently, both on E9, and unable to work on both necks. |
Bobby Lee Sysop Posts: 14849 |
![]() ![]() There might be room for a RKR (it would be tight), but I can't see any place for a LKR. So yes, I suppose 3 would be max. |
