David,
I have had two Sierra guitars in the past, and did not mean anything by my joke in a previous post. I bought 2 Timberwolves in the early 80's from Don Christenson. One was thin sounding, but the other had a dual coil pickup, and I liked it a lot! It is owned by David Hunt, a dentist, who plays in a church in Tennessee.

David, when are you performing in Dallas next week? I've always enjoyed hearing you in the booths, but never heard you onstage.

I also used a E-66 pickup on my Sho-Bud, liked it better than the stock single coil, but switched to a George L's 10-1 and liked it much better. When I bought the Zum, I tried the stock pickup for a few weeks, then ordered the George L's 12-1, the equivalent pick up for a 12 string. Nice warm tone, I'm happy with it. I'm probably one of those guys who would have liked an MSA guitar based on what I hear from these posts online. Definitely not an Emmons sound. I'm happy with my rig (this week).

Reggie: All is good.......

John: I am playing Fir night,@ 6:30 I believe,

We At Sierra will have a new pick up comming out
Hot Wright Custom"
pickups that Sierra is now offering.
These are DiMarzio pickups, but are actually a design
and manufacturing collaboration between DiMarzio, Joe
Wright, and Sierra. Sierra helped with the design and we
are making some of the parts that go into the pickup.
DiMarzio is doing the winding and final assembly. Then, it
goes back to Sierra for testing and mounting into the modular
pickup carrier.
I have not yet used one but will keep you all posted on how all this comes out......

Hey Nick, thanks for sharing...I just got to hear two "super pickers" playing and Emmons P/P and Sierra U12 side by side...(someone said it was Top Secret, but one player was David Wright) The show was fantastic.

Someone in this thread or another compared the two guitars a sounding a lot a like...no way. They both had thier own distinct sound as I'm sure you are aware. If you had to compare (my opinion, anyway) it was like two masters playing Stratocaster and a Les Paul side by side...different but pleasing.

I suppose I should shed some light on the Sierra/Emmons thing. I don't recall having said the Sierra is the closest to an Emmons, but depending on the context, I could have easily written something in shorthand that might have been interpreted as that.

My feeling is that Sierra and Emmons are worlds apart, which is the reason I have both guitars. The Sierra gearless is the best guitar for C6 that I've ever played, but having said that, I traded some of the rich resonance of that model for the slightly more convenient tuning keys.

You'll see my picture in both Sierra and Emmons ads, not because they gave me the guitars, but because they asked my permission first. In both cases, I insisted on paying for them because I didn't want to be involved in the politics of a freebie. The Sierra is an S-12 devoted to the C6 tuning. That makes the D-10 Emmons my choice for work. If I ever find the time to weed through the E 13th tuning I have on my S-12 Carter, I'll be using it on special occasions, but for now, it's strictly experimental.
