The Derailers are going to be here in town on Sat night - I am aware that Tony Villanueva departed the band as co-frontman with Brian Hoefeldt back earlier this year, and I heard somewhere along the line that Dave Biller had stepped into place with them, at least for their Austin gigs.

If anyone has caught them out on some of these shows away from Texas, two questions - is indeed Dave Biller with the band?? and are they traveling with a steel player in the mix?? I am hoping that it is "yes" to both questions, if so, I'll be the first to arrive... last to leave.

Our band opened for them a couple of weeks ago here in the Austin area. Here's the line up:

Brian is fronting the band

Ed on bass

Scott Matthews on drums

Sweet Basil on keyboards (sounds just like Jerry Lee Lewis)

And this forum's very own Chris Schlotzhauer on steel. This dude can flat play a steel....or play a steel flat....! Just kidding Chris!

I was worried when Tony left the band, but not now. These boys rock harder than ever. If they get anywhere close to you, please go see them, you won't be disappointed. Texas honky tonkin' at it's finest.

Mark - great, thanks for the scoop. I'm sure to be there, as have never heard Chris play, so certainly looking forward to that. The couple of times I've previously caught the Derailers live, they had Pete Finney with them. He was always just super too.

I thought Tony's departure might spell the end of the Derailers. His lead vocals were always so good, with Brian doing lots of high harmony - both with tele's strapped on, they really had that kind of "Buck-and-Don" relationship on stage much of the time. It will be interesting to see Brian taking on more of a pure frontman role.

The vocals are just as good as always IMHO, and everyone in the band is a strong player. You won't be disappointed! BE prepared for a fun time.
