I'm in the process of learning Farewell Party off Lloyd's CD "Revisited". It's so amazing. If I didn't know better, I'd swear that he has a D# to E change on the second string, the E to Eb change on the 4th string, and the Franklin pedal to boot....

BTW, does anybody have tabs for this CD?

I was amazed looking at the video "an evening of E9th" watching the bar slants he uses.

Lloyd Green, Jimmy Day and Buddy Emmons use bar slants because you get something extra out of it! I wish that I could explain it better. But I see it, or rather hear it as a feeling /expressive technique from these Master Artists of Steel Guitar!

GOD bless you all!

Ah, the bar slants. I have to watch that fabulous video again. It would seem then that the above-mentioned changes would only be for us manu-angularly challenged?

Bobbe Seymour's Steel Guitar Nashville carries a video called Slants and Reverses. I am looking forward to viewing it and ordered one in July or Aug of 2003 but it hasn't arrived yet and must be back ordered.

I just recently purchased a copy myself. I've viewed it many times. It is with both Lloyd Green and Tommy White side by side trading licks on the same songs in a live setting. I believe I saw Tommy White also employ a few bar slants. You can get the video at www.tommywhite.com

Yes, we're mainly talking about Lloyd here, but Tommy is a fantastic player as well.

I wish I knew how to write in smaller letters on this thing (as I've seen others do) - then I'd 'whisper' that, while my admiration for both of these great musicians knows no bounds, I prefer Tommy's tone to Lloyd's on this particular video.

I must add, though, that Lloyd's tone when I saw him at ISGC '01 with his 'LDG' was as close to perfect as I've ever heard from a steel guitar.....

RODGER,i can't beleive you said that!!ha ha!
mabe something is wrong with your player!!hA
Just teasing you RODGER,i thought just the opposite,i liked the deeper tone that Lloyd had,and he put it there just right.Don't get me wrong,I love TOMMY to.AS TOMMY said, when the master came in,WOW,all stand to attention!!!Guess this is why i like those old sho-bud sounds, mellow, even tho he was playing a Franklin on that E9th tape.
I think the two of them just goes together.
Listening to when the river all goes dry,I wanted to cry!!God Bless You . farris

Lloyd was playing his JCH on that tape, Farris.

Let's agree to differ about tone.....

Hi Farris,
Thank you for the kind words.
I'm curious as to how or where you are able to listen to mine and Lloyd's set from the 2002 steel guitar convention.
Thanks again.
