Here's one of the reasons there's a pedal steel section of the forum: |

The sync on the steel solo reminded me of some of the Beatles promo stuff- John's hands would be off the guitar altogether! |

Well, guys... it's a Bigsby we're watching, and a Bigsby we're listening to, but somehow I get the feeling that the Bigsby we're listening to is not the Bigsby we're watching. ------------------ |

THe whole clip is out of synch and the audio may have been edited badly as well but I don't think it's a different guitar. |

If you download the clip and play it on a .flv player, Webb is in sync with the music, however, Sonny Burnett's playing is not. It is pretty obvious that his playing was edited in. I love to see who the people standing in the background on these clips are. In the background, right to left...Dale Potter playing fiddle, Van Howard beside him strumming guitar, and Marty Robbins's guitar player,Jack Pruitt, in the background to Van's right. Pretty cool stuff. Smiley, can you add anymore? I see June Webb in a lot of the other clips from that era. |

Yea, this is one of the Bigsbys that I have today, it is in the process of complete restoration to original spects. As a matter of fact I have two doubles, this one and the wood neck "Sunny" guitar. Actually, on this clip, Johnny Siebert's name was covered up, but was still there. I think most of you know the history of this steel now. If not, Chris Scruggs, Johnny Siebert, Sonny Burnette or Lloyd Green can vouch for this guitar's history. An interesting one for sure. This is the guitar that Lloyd started his recording career on, a few years later, Herb S. might be thinking that Webb is pantomiming the original session in which Iaascs played, possible, but the tone of a Bigsby is the "Tone of a Bigsby". As a matter of fact, you can see Johnny Siebert standing behind Sonny at his new Fender steel that he got after he sold the Bigsby to Webb Pierce, (for Mr. Burnette to play). What a GREAT clip!!!!!!!

They just edited a wrong "camera insert" during a steel solo, there are several examples of that in those many Gannaway films. For example check Jim Reeves doing Yonder Comes A Sucker and watch Jimmy Day's hands during a steel break. |

Jussi's got it right! Having worked in live TV for years, I figure it was a multi-camera shoot, cam 2 was on the steel player and perhaps the focus or a camera move was bad. So they simplyt edited in another shot of the steeler from a different song to cover the audio. They probably figured (and rightly,) who would know but other steel players? I wish that Dolly Parton would wear that shirt that Web Pierce has on. The 45 records would turn into 78s. ;-) |

It seems like the rhythm is right, so maybe it was a clip from the same song, just cued in at the wrong place. Too bad. It would be priceless to see a clip of Bud or Sonny playing that historic ride. |

Jussi is on the money with the editing comment. The shows and music are indeed live, no lipsync, but they edited the video on them oddly at times... sometimes to remove an image of someone who hadn't agreed to a release, sometimes just ineptly, inserting a picture of Johnny Sibert's hands when it was another player...or the bigsby edit in the example, likely from another tune entirely

Yes Andy, there is a way to download the clips. I have downloaded several, but they require a particular player which is available on the internet. If you wish, I will try to work up the procedure that I use and send it to you. |

On the camera change from Sonny back to Webb, you can briefly see Marty's steel player, James Farmer seated in front of Jack Pruitt. I believe the girl in blue behind Webb is June Webb. ...but who is the guy behind Webb with the red neckerchief? |

Below is what I do to download the Youtube files. Go to find and play the clip of interest. Highlight the URL and Cut it. You must go to www.Youtube.com to play it in order to get the correct URL.
Go to website:
http://javimoya.com/blog/youtube_en.php
and paste it into where it says 'Download direct from most video sites'
Toward the end of the line where it says 'Any Site' click on down arrow and choose YouTube
Then click on Download.
Scroll down a short distance and you will see a button named DOWNLOAD LINK. Right click it and choose "SAVE TARGET AS".
This will give you the opportunity to choose the name you wish as well as the folder that you wish to store it. You must choose a name with .flv as the
extent. i.e. webbpierceslowly.flv
Once saved, go to the following website:
and download the .flv player.
Install the player and that should put you in business. All you need do then is double-click the saved webbpierceslowly.flv file and it should bring up the player and begin playing.

You Bigsby fans should notice something about this guitar that is different than any other steel Paul Bigsby built. The controls between the necks that were ordered and built into the guitar when new. The holes in the casting were pluged and not used. One more thing, and the biggest thing, the tuning screws that came out of the rear of the neck. This was the guitar that Shot Jackson got the tuner idea from (or Buddy) for the soon to follow Sho-Bud guitars. This guitar "pulls" from the pickup end,(unlike Bud Isaacs guitar) but the tuning screws aren't on top like other Bigsby steels. This guitar is still exactly like this today as it was in '54 and I'll be glad to show it to anyone interested that comes by the store at the "Vintage Steel Guitar Museum". An interesting great piece of history in all it's glory. [This message was edited by BobbeSeymour on 26 May 2006 at 03:03 PM.] [This message was edited by BobbeSeymour on 26 May 2006 at 03:16 PM.] |

For comparison purposes only, go to "About Ray" at the Jerry Byrd Fan club site. The four neck Bigsby was using an Echolette and a Fender 4 x 10's Bassman amp. I think the sounds/tone are quite similar, a sound easily identified with BIGSBY. |

I got a kick out of the big breath he takes half-way through the solo......it's almost as if he's getting ready to withstand the pressure of being the first. |

On the clip of "Slowly" the signature lick at the beginning was completely gone and then cut off halfway through the ending. Blasphemy! |
