Heard a couple songs last night by the Texas Troubadours PanHandle Rag and Leon's Guitar Boogie. Wow these guys were jammin!! I had no idea Ernest Tubb had such a hot band!!!Does anyone know who played guitar and steel guitar? They were smokin!!!! |

One thing is for certain and that is that ET always had hot players. Whether it was Buddy E and Leon, or Buddy C. and Leon, or Billy and Don, or Pete and Lynn. That's one reason I was always a fan. I would have to say that the best band was the "Great Band", with Buddy C, Jack Green, Leon Rhodes, Cal Smith, and Jack Drake. Sorry Pete.------------------

BTW, Buddy did play a pedal steel on all those tunes. |

I know Bobby Garrett played some unbeleivable steel for ET while Buddy Emmons played guitar. Then when Bobby went to work for Hank Thompson (his dream band gig) Buddy moved to steel and they hired Leon Rhodes to play guitar. ET had some great guys picking for him. Rick |

Yes indeed, ET's Troubadors featuring Buddy Chrarleton, Leon Rhodes, Cal Smith, Jack Drake and Jack Green was one of the finest bands to ever back a singer. So were the Buckaroos with Tom Brumley, Don Rich, Willy Cantou and Doyle Holly. They don't come any finer than these. If you already have the ablum "ET Presents the Texas Troubadors", get the Buck Owens "Live at Carnegie Hall" ablum. Truly masterpieces that may NEVER be equalled. Also whe shant forget the Little Jimmy Dickens band with Buddy Emmons or Ray Price backing Buddy and Jimmy Day all those years Oh how I miss "dem" days! carl |

Texas Troubadour musicians are legendary indeed!! On steel alone were greats such as Jerry Byrd, Kemo Head, Dickie Harris, Buddy Emmons, Bobby Garrett, Jimmy Day (he did not "tour" with ET, but filled in for Big E who was ill and signed Emmons' name on the union card so Buddy would have something coming in! A friend in need is a friend in deed....), Buddy Charleton, Lynn Owsley, Johnnie Cox, Neil Flanz...............Ahhhhhh!!! |
