THIS AUCTION is for an 8 string Fender non-pedal steel. The owner claims that the guitar was custom built for JB and that he played it on his Satin Strings of Steel album. This instrument was posted on ebay over a year ago and the bids went to almost $3000, yet the reserve price was not met. What do you think? fact or fiction? ------------------ www.dougbsteel.com

Doug,,,,that is a fact the JB played a Fender. Forrest White (now deceased) was a good friend of JB ,,,Forrest was Leo's right hand man during the Pre CBS days at Fender,,,it was Forrest who had Leo make a guitar for Jerry. Hope this helps you re this question. |

I think that is the steel he used on his "Satin Strings of Steel" album. That would be a nice Fender to have! |

Yes Jerry played a fender and it had seven strings. Be careful as there has been many an asian copy and most of the time they put 7 strgs on the guitar |

This guitar was up on an E-bay auction about a year ago. It was suposedly the only one made (to JBīs request), in Fenderīs efforts to get JB from Rickenbacker to Fender. It had a longer keyhead as all other Fender steels to allow him (JB) to slide off the nut ("zero fret"), string thru the boddy attach and a pyramidal bridge instead of the round one. It was black and had 4 legs to prevent the tip over phenomenom (all just like on the pictures on this auction). It was returned to Forest White by JB. The last time they had it on auction it went up to around $3000.oo (if my memory serves me well). But it did not sell. The reserve of aledgedly over $5000.oo (!) was not met (could you beleive that? ). The seller has been said to have offered it for $4500.oo afterwards. I do not know if it sold then. The only funny thing now is, that on the previous auction the pictures were of much better quality and much more detailed and so was the story that went with it... Has it been bought and is the buyer now trying to re-sell it?? Or are there more than one around?? I donīt know.... J-D. |

I believe the last time around the seller spelled all the names correctly. That's a great looking guitar. I wouldn't pay $4000 for it, but I'd certainly love to have a lap steel with that design (hint, hint).------------------ Brad's Page of Steel A web site devoted to acoustic & electric lap steel guitars |

If anyone is really interested in it, I'll contact the seller and see if I can see the guitar in person (Seal Beach is not too far down the road) and take some detailed photos. If he is legit there should not be any problem.Tell me what you want to see to determine if this might be the real thing. jdg ------------------ MSA D-10 '63 Gibson Hummingbird 16/15c Hammered Dulcimer |
