It looks like the tuning pegs are too close to the nut for playing on the first fret. Other than that, it looks great. |

Hi Guys, the pegs are no closer than normal. This particular one has an Emmons keyhead,....must just be the pic angle The first few Ive made have been custom commissioned & assembled from parts (mostly Emmons) that I had in my shop. The new ones will feature a metal neck as standard. The keyhead & neck castings will be wrinkle painted black, similar to an old pre-war 'Ricky.(buffing is optioal, tho). The nut will no longer be rollered as Ive gone to a nut featuring grooves for more tone & sustain. Im using Gotoh gears, a 5/8"straight rock maple board, mica'ed in your choice of color & texture. For that matter, once the neck & head castings are wrinkled, any color can be sprayed over & baked on. Scale is 24 or 24 1/4...your choice. The guitar is strung thru from the bottom for sustain & the strings are seated in ferrules like a Tele'. The bottom is finished in a black rubber tread like a volume pedal, to prevent slippage on lap or stand. Also prevents scratching of furniture, tables, etc. The main reason Ive made these & offered them is that several fellows had ordered them, so I jigged a board & can now assemble them rather quickly. The comments Im getting are quite positive & the main one seems to be that the board feels & looks like a pedal guitar, making for quicker adaptation to a new instrument. Most other lap guitars seem to be more guitar shaped with different string spacing & thus require a period of adjustment. Besides, I havent seen many buliders offering 10 strings as standard, although there are one or two out there. Delivery time is 1 to 2 weeks from reciept of payment. Presently, Im trying to secure gig bags at a reasonable price, should anyone want one. Many thanx to C Sharp for his help in designing the link & his advice thanx,mc

Mike's practice boards are a real work of art. I use mine constantly. In craftmanship alone they are well worth the money. Now that I have one I can get an extra 10 or so hours of practice in a week that would otherwise be time wasted. When I am touring the practice board is a life saver. Not my life but the lives of the guys that I'm stuck in the van with ! Bob |

thanx Bob...LOL!! yep, saves lives & sanity...mebbe I should go for the Good Housekeepng seal of approval Andy, this one has a Barcus Berry p/u in it. As i said in another post, the first several were custom commissions & made from what was here. A customer can get any type of p/u that is available & will fit, eg, Lawrence, Emmons, George L etc. The height is fully adjustable as in most any manufacturers guitar. mc |

I'm gonna have to have one. How about a Zum fretboard? Would that make it cost any more or take any longer? BD |

I got my new practice board from Mike a couple of days ago. It is excellent and I highly recommend it if your like me and have trouble getting enough practice time in on your pedal steel. That's what I bought it for and it works great. Sounds really good plugged in too. I had Mike put a Zum fretboard on mine and it really looks sharp. Didn't take long at all to get it either. Thanks Mike and keep up the good work. BD |
