I'm trying to find two of these. I've got a post over in the Buy & Sell for these, but thought some people may not go there regularly, so hopefully they may see this here. I have this old Dual Professional with the original "box car/rectangular Direct" pickups. I've been in contact with Mr. Jody Carver and per Mr. Carver this guitar is probably is one of the first 20 or so Dual Professionls made. There's a chance this guitar may be going into the Fender Museum in Corona, CA.

However, the guitar had some homemade fretbords when I got it. I was able to get a set of later Dual Pro boards that are the same size, but have the "block markers" rather then the Roman Numerals. (Fender put these Roman Numeral boards on the early years, maybe even into the early '50's(??) and after they went to the trapazoidial-shaped Direct pickups.)

Anyway, now that it may be going where Mr. Carver & I think it should, I would like to get a pair of the Roman Numeral fretboards so it can more accurately represent itself. I am willing to trade-in these later block-marked boards or buy outright a pair of the Roman Numeral ones. Thanks for any leads or help here.

p.s. - b0b or Lori, if this is out of line here, please moderate as you see fit. Thanks.

John and all those who may be interested in
Fender History and possibly help John locate
what he is looking for.

Richard Smith a good friend and author of the
book "FENDER THE SOUND HEARD ROUND THE WORLD"
is the co-ordinator of the Fender Museum.

Richard asked me a few years ago if I would consent to sending my four neck Fender to the Museum for all to see as it is in picture perfect condition with a history behind it. I didnt ship my four neck to Corona as I was using it on a steady job and
had nothing else to use in its place.

John was kind enough to send me jpgs of his Dual Pro guitar & my first thought was,,dont
sell this John, its a piece of Fender history
and it was I that requested John's beauty be put into the HOF in Corona..

I am waiting for a reply from Richard and I hope that Fender will see fit to put this beauty on display for all to see.

This is truly "one of a kind" that term is often used I know, but in this case John's guitar is to my opinion "Priceless".

It deserves to be in the Fender HOF and I will do anything I can to get it where it rightfully belongs.

John..if Leo Fender were to see this,he would someohow find a pair of these,if not
he would make em up for you.

Hang in there.I'll do all I can.

Jody edited to add,,I beleive this guitar is one of a kind and I doubt very much if there is another in the world. Somewhat like its owner.

I have just recieved word from Richard Smith
that the Fender Museum in Fullerton will be
closing its door's in a few weeks.

I am very sorry to learn of this. The Fender
Museum is quite a shrine to Leo Fender and his innovative instruments.

Richard feels however that in the not too distant future, the museum will once again be open to those who visit. I hope so.

If any further information is available to me,I will post it.

Meanwhile John we will have to wait until such time and hope that once again Fender Musical Instruments will find a way to continue the musuem.

Darn it, and just when they were thinking of erecting a statue of myself, and this happens.Well at least they offered to send me the cement to erect my own. They mentioned something about cement shoes? what did they mean by that???

Thanks to my friend Richard for his contributions to Fender and the musicians
who helped make the museum a wonderful adventure for those who were able to visit.

John,we will have to put our project on hold
but perhaps this dream we had will be a reality sometime soon.

You have a great guitar and I know that those who are able to see it will agree that
it is truly "one of a kind" just like you.

I'll keep you posted.

Jody

Howdy, Jody... thanks for the support & kind words. Yea, too bad about the museum taking time out, but, hey it'll just give us more time to try to come up with some boards.
Say, maybe those cement shoes are so you won't be able to play any of those Bigsby pedal steels -- Mr. Leo may still have some contacts down here -- better watch it!

I dont think Leo has to worry about that.I recall a Fender salesman years back getting hold of one of those Birdseye Maple guitars.

Word is that Leo asked this young salesman Why would a Fender salesman want a Bigsby guitar?? the salesman answered, well Leo I just wanted to see what our competitors were up to.

Ole Leo said,well Ok,but when you're done
testing that guitar out there buddy, put it in the closet. I wouldn't want Paul having somethin on me.

The salesman asked for Leo's forgivness and said,,Leo are you religious? Leo said why'd
you want to know that?

The salesman replied well if you pray hard enough maybe your prayers will be answered and that salesman will hide that guitar.

Leo came back and said, well if you dont hide that guitar,I'll hide your commision checks and you'll have to pray to get paid pardner.

I dont re-call the name of that salesman
it's been so long ago. But the salesmans
commision checks were always in the mail after that. As for the Bigsby,I dont know what ever happened to that.

Leo's favorite song was "Faded Love" and Richard Smith played a beautiful rendition
of Leo's favorite song at Leo's service.The
room was quiet as Richard played his guitar

Richard played his Dual Pro, and all by himself played so beautiful, that I could see
what looked like a smile on Leo's face.

All of Leo's friends were there,Eddie Dean,Gene Autry, and others too many to mention. I will never forget that moment
when Richard played so softly the tune of "Faded Love",,it seemed as though the world stood still as memories came back to me.

Richard thought your'e guitar is beautiful, and he would love to see that beauty,I e mailed him the jpegs you sent me and he was amazed at the condition.

I hope that we can get that guitar into the
Museum, when and if it starts up again.
Your guitar should be front and center to show everyone something that was Leo's start
on the road to fame.

It was the steel guitar that Leo loved so much and that was what started the fire burning and that flame will never go out.

I know somehow sometime your Dual Pro will be seen by those who love Fender guitars.
Keep the faith and I'll say a prayer to Leo
and ask for his help.it worked with the salesman that had that Bigsby, the salesman
prayed for his commison check and Leo's forgivness and those prayers were answered and you know what?? I'm glad they did.

Jody. edited to add.I never did find out who
that salesman was.
