That's the most incredible collection I have ever seen! Amazing! Can you make some wallpaper of that den, so I can enjoy a wall like that?
Your collection is still not quite complete :-} www.lapdancerguitars.com

WOW! Richard,I can't wait to show my wife your post and picture. I thought I was pushing the envelope with 5 steels and 11 guitars. I read this just as I was feeling like I had gone over the edge this weekend when I grabbed a 1947 Supro 6 just because it had "the tone".

It's true, they are more addictive than fretted guitars. Is it just because a lot of cool ones are still only a few hundred $?

Great thread, gentlemen!

Come on guys you have to approach this logically and in an adult mannner.
How many places are there where you need to have a steel?
So that's one for every room in the house, plus a couple in the garage - and don't forget the attic! Then if you have an office or workstation where you do your job, you'll need another one there.
Then you have to consider what will happen if you are visiting friends or family..
You'll either have to set one up at all the houses you visit regularly, or have one that you can keep in the car.
I don't think you have enough. You'd better get to "Instruments for Sale" right now.

Cheers!

Guys, don't worry about it. As b0b says, you're spouse will tell you when you have enogh steel guitars. If you don't like their answer, get another one - spouse that is.

Since starting this topic, I have sold 5 laps, & bought one. I really feel that I am getting a hold on my "Buy everything I see" problem. It's neat to see some of the instruments that all the rest of you have.

I've had this thing for a long time. I never play it, athough it sounds fantastic. So, I'm thinking of selling it. I almost never see one of these for sale. I guess they're pretty rare. I can't even guess the value. It's in really beautiful shape with minor pick damage close to the treble side that could probably be just rubbed out, or not. Brilliant quilted looking grain. I just can't justify taking up any more floor space with an instrument I will probably hardly ever play. I love it, but I don't need it.
I'm also considering selling my Fender "White" with matching amp.
I think they both need a better owner.

I am sure I can't afford it, but what is your asking price for these?

I'm not asking anything yet. I'm trying to test the water. Again, they both need good homes, but I'm not going to give them away. I just want to know how much these things are worth to people who know and love them.

b0b;
I only own (1)-Steel Guitar at the present time, but; my wife says the same thing to me: “You don't need another 'gitore', you should just sell yours and stop wasting you time. You're too old anyway!" _ _ _ _ You have to be really tactful, but; it's hard to make promises you can't/won't keep!

Richard, you're the only person I know of who has a worse (or I should say better) case of S-GAS than I do. What a great collection!

I only have about 33 or 34 of them, unless you count individual necks on double and triple neck steels. I'm sure there are probably others who have more than that, I just don't know about it . .

I guess the only valid answer to the original question would be: As long as you can clear a path from your bed to the toilet you don't have too many.

Thanks guys...I had forgot about this topic. I think I still may have a slight touch of S-GAS. This week I ordered one of the new Fender Lap Steels without seeing or hearing one. All it took was one look at a picture, & I was on the phone with a local Fender dealer & I now have one on the way. Oh well...the one with the most toys when we die....wins!!!

Doesn't seem fair does it? The winner still dies.

If it's true that angels play harps and Gabriel blows his horn, maybe I could take a few Steels and a couple of amps!
