I own a '48 Bronson Melody King.(6 string) Under the headstock cover it says: " Mfg. by Rickenbacher Electro. Does anyone know what's the story behind these guitars ?

Gerald, thanks for the pictures. This is exactly the guitar I have. Is this supposed to be some kind of a Rickenbacher or not ?

It was made by Rickenbacker but does not have the Rick nameplate attached to it.You decide if it's a Rick or not. Is a 1940's Kalamazoo or 1960's Epiphone guitar a Gibson? They were all made in the Gibson factory by Gibson builders...

The Bronson is Rick B-6D with brown Bakelite neck and body and bronze colored plates. It was made for Bronson Music Company of Detroit by Rickenbacker. These are really good lap steels and pretty rare.
The picture on the Rickenbacker Forum was mine. I sold it with the matching amp to a guy named Bronson several years ago. I'm sorry I did, but he offered me much more than I payed and more than I thought it was worth at the time. |

I've heard that to avoid legal logistics, the Bronson's were made a bit smaller than their pure bread counterparts.Any truth to this? Did they only make 6 strings? They look and sound real good. |

I recently got a '53 exactly like the one pictured. My roommate has a late '40s Rick B6 and it's exactly the same instrument except for the colors and the tuner coverplate, which was on the Rick BD6 (deluxe version). It is a great instrument with the usual huge bakelite tone and heft. |
