Could someone give a report on the quality and sound of these guitars? They look to be a good value, but I have never heard one nor do I personally know anyone who has. How would they compare with, say, a Regal Black Lightning or the new Beard Gold Tone?
Thanks!

I know that there will be responses quite the opposite of what I'm about to say.

The worst piece of garbage I've ever seen in my life. I'm talking from personal experience here, not hearsay, not a friend of a friend, not a written review, or a 10 minute demo.

I bought one on ebay directly from Liberty some years ago.

Don't waste your money.

I had a biscuit-bridge wooden Liberty "Triolian" for a while, so I can't compare it to a spider-bridge guitar. The quality, fit and finish were reasonably good, roughly comparable to the lower-priced, off-the-shelf Regals. (In fact, I'm certain that the body and neck were the same one used by Regal for their similar guitar. As I understand it, Bill buys the bodies and necks from an Asian supplier, then installs his own cones and does the setup.) It came set up for bottleneck playing, which was exactly what I requested. And while it didn't compare with a National M2 or Estralita, it was about 1/4 the price.

Overall, my Liberty was a good value for the price I paid, but it would be no match for what GoldTone Beard provides.

Get a real instrument. A Beard/Gold Tone is only $525. That's cheap for an instrument nowadays.

The Beard/Gold Tone may be the only squareneck reso you will ever need.

Thanks for the good advice. I have the parts to build a nice dobro but it will be late this summer before I can get it finished. My older Regal is not very inspiring to play and not worth an upgrade.
