I saw this on Ebay and am tryin to figure out what year it might be. I'm finally in a position to buy a Rickenbacker so I'm startin a serious search for a "prewar" bakelite.

Hi Andy
I had a Rick like that, it's a '49 or 50 model. The pre-war models will have the strings thru the body behind the bridge, and not have the chrome bracket which mounts the pick-up and secures the strings.
Guess you will have to keep looking!!
Good luck BILL

I did a search and found some good info on dating Rickenbackers and was guessing around 1950 or so. I'm holding out for a prewar.

Andy,

Here's a pretty good ID data source. Looks like that fleabay one is a model BD, somewhere between 1949 and 1971. The badge logo and case I'm not familiar with might narrow it down further; And maybe Bill will recognize the logo and case to be like his 49/50.

Rick Aiello or another real expert will most likely come along pretty soon and probably be able to pin down the year!

Aloha,
DT~
