This year's HSGA Joliet, Illinois convention is set for October 13-15, 2005 at the newly remodeled Joliet Holiday Inn.

Our Guest of honor is the award winning Hawaiian steeler Paul Kim. Paul and his buddies Casey Olsen, Alan Akaka and Greg Sardinha recently won the Hawaiian Music Awards for best steel album of the year with their CD Byrd's Nest. We are very pleased Paul is joining us.

HSGA Member stage performances will occur each day from 9AM until approximately 6PM, Saturday until 3PM.

Open jamming until the wee hours will occur each night (Wed-Sat).

Saturday night Luau and floor show!

Free Workshops:
Wednesday night (pre convention):
Mike Scott will discuss his style of playing (pre-war electric non-pedal), his musical career, the "old songs", and his collection of music (he has 1000's of 78's, LPs and tapes and is known as a world authority on Hawaiian recordings).

Thursday night:
The Steel Guitar Forum's own
Rick Aiello will discuss and display his cast aluminum/bronze frypan steel guitars and his innovative pickup designs.

Friday night:
Talk story with Paul Kim. Paul discusses his steel style and will offer tips and discuss technique.

This is just a quick announcement. More details, registration and hotel forms will be available on the HSGA website in a few days.

Here are a few convention details from Joliet coordinator Don Weber.

I just ordered a second furnace ... to run two simultaneously ...

I need 'em to fill these big "pans" I'm makin' this summer ...

Might have to rent a U-Haul to carry 'em all up to Joliet ...

It's going to be interesting with the new bar on site.

Apparently back in the early 90's the Joliet Holiday Inn had an onsite bar. I have heard many legendary HSGA stories about that bar and the music that happened there.
