This Friday the 29th at 1:45 PM eastern time, TCM (Turner Classic Movies) is showing the 1939 feature film "Honolulu", with Eleanor Powell, Robert Young, George Burns, Gracie Allen, and Andy Iona with his full band. No doubt it will be rebroadcast, but I can't recall this film on TV before.

I have never seen the film, but an hour or so ago I saw a preview of a great scene with Eleanor dancing in front of Andy and the band. Appears to be a full length song in a major production. I would guess there is music throughout the film, but I don't know how much screen time musicians get.

The last of these 3 links gives this info re the music:

Songs: [0:19] Honolulu (sung by Gracie Allen, then sung by chorus as Gracie and Eleanor Powell dance, then danced with jump ropes by Eleanor Powell); [0:32] This Night Was Made for Dreaming (sung by unidentified male crooner); [0:34] The Leader Doesn't Like Music (sung by Gracie Allen with two Groucho Marxes and two Harpo Marxes dubbed by The King's Men); [1:06] Hawiian Medley (sung by Andy Iona's Islanders while Eleanor Powell dances)

Thanks Mitch ...

I remember reading that this particular film really ruffled some feathers ... when it came out ...

The cellophane hula skirts, etc ...

I sure wish my girls didn't stuff a peanut butter & jelly sandwich in my VCR ...

Just the incentive I needed to go get a new one ...

Well, I didn't get a VCR in time ... but I did watch it.

It's been along time since I saw it ... long before Bruce Clarke "introduced" me to Andy Iona.

Very cool ... but that darn "tap dancer" kept gettin' right in front of Iona ... in every "close up".

What a "Band" ...

Jimmy Tai
Eddie Bush
George Piltz
Harry Beatty
Sam Koki
Andy Iona
Bobby Nichols
Bobby Mathews
Lani McIntire
Tommy Ainahau

Several of the tunes are on Cumquats Andy Iona CD's ... it was cool to hear them coming from a movie.

Thanks again for the "heads up" ... it was quite entertaining

Sorry ...

I shouldn't have watched Bonnie & Clyde before posting ...
