I have edited / moved a posting from another discussion chain to this more appropriate one. I said:

quote:
I hope the HSGA recognizes by 2007 that the steadily declining internal amateur production ain't gonna continue to do justice to the HSGA and talent of the Jerry Byrd Hoolaulea.

And Gerald Ross's reply:

quote:
Honestly Denny, the HSGA would love to have Sol Hoopii, Dick McIntire, Jules Ah See, Barney Isaacs, Andy Iona, Feet Rogers and Jerry Byrd play a set but it aint gonna happen. I wish it could but we have what we have.

There's an old Yiddish expression that addresses things that just can't be, it translates...

"If my Grandmother had balls, she'd be my Grandfather"

See my reply in next message posting.

Aloha,
DT~

Allright Denny! I know your heart is in the right place.

BTW - I spoke on the phone with Kamaka Tom yesterday and he informed me that this year's Hoo'laulea's attendance was the highest it's been in years.

And Zei Gezunt to you Howard.

Thank You, Gerald.

You and others are doing increasingly good jobs in the HSGA that is not going un-noticed.

I think you misunderstood me; I said:

quote:
I hope the HSGA recognizes by 2007 that the steadily declining internal amateur production ain't gonna continue to do justice to the HSGA and talent of the Jerry Byrd Hoolaulea.

I was COMMENDING the HSGA effort and Talent, ...and hoping the Hoolaulea production would catch up to same.

Expounding for clarity:

I think most folks that watch the HSGA realize the noticeable improvements that folks like yourself are creating within the HSGA. I have also heard "street talk" suggesting that some members, non-members and ex-members Steelers who have been constructively critical of the HSGA in the past are re-examining their desires to help promote the Steel Guitar via the HSGA. I also noticed, heard and discussed renewed hopes and motivations among some Steelers at Jerry's Memorial Service. The commendable spirit, Performers' talent and audience reaction exhibited in the Jerry Byrd Hoolaulea last week led me to again notice that the internal production of the Hoolaulea is one of the areas in contrast that I hope will catch up to the commendable spirit, Talent and apparantly renewed hopes for the HSGA; And the Talents to produce a truely professional show were right there on stage and in the audience, were it thought / sought out. And as said a number of times in the past; The crux of that matter is what the HSGA wants out of that production; It is THEIR gig, not us outsiders'. I would rather reserve detailed discussion for after the Convention and support the Convention as much as possible while it's good job is in progress.

Over the last year Jerry Byrd had some thoughts that his mission to teach and promote the Steel Guitar had not produced the results he desired (and who can live up to his desires for broad perfection?) ...and particularly during the last 2 months Jerry and I had discussed a number of his specific concerns (the Hoolaulea production was NOT one of them), and I made promises to Jerry that I would personally take upon certain things to up the ante in promoting the Steel Guitar. As Jerry's passing settles in our hearts and minds, I want to carefully keep his mission alive and renewed while it's fresh on our minds. I have been compiling initiative things to post on the SGF, and it seems like it's a good time to start mentioning some. Support of the HSGA's or any other initiatives is quite important in that process ...in the directly honest manners Jerry and I both have (as well as other well-intentioned folks too), as far as I am able to. When Jerry and I were discussing our similar honestly-intended mannerisms that are sometimes construed as abrasive (and sometimes disheartening to us folks that have those mannerisms), ...I told Jerry that I had been referred-to a number of times as being brutally honest. Jerry smiled, closed his eyes and nodded "yes". I hope that you and others will recognize that my mannerisms are with good and honest intent.

Aloha,
DT~
