I am thinking of getting what looks to be a Fender deluxe 8. It's mustard colored, has 3 legs and comes in a black "textured" case.
The string length is about 22 inches.
In the headstock, under the strings, is written
"Fender Pat. 2838974"
Can anyone identify the approximate date this was made?
Thanks,
Stacy

Do you have any more information? With what you gave us I would just guess at about 1960 or later. If you have the serial number it would help.

Jody????

Any ideas?

Thank God somebody got here before HowardR!

The best I can offer is between 1963 and 1976. According to George Gruhn, the legs became an option in 1957, the patent number first appeared in 1963 and the choice of finishes became only white or black in 1976.

Hopefully someone who knows more about Fenders can you help you narrow it down more.

Hey someone looking for me? Well to narrow it down is difficult. I would take a guess in looking over my ledger book that this particular steel was manufactured in the eary 1970's and to close in on the exact date
I dunno, but I'll bet my last dollar is 1969
the year the New York Mets won the world series. I beleive I am right on target.

Thank You Gary for you're confidence. Hi Stacy buy it wont be sorry Iknow because I had one as a sample back then.Wow I am getting old. I should have a serial number marked on me. patent "not" pending.

Hope this helps.
