Howard,

Thanks again, amigo, for allowing me and everyone in the house to be a part of history. If we can get a good copy of the audio of Jody playing the Jerry Byrd steel it would be my pleasure to play it on "Swingin' West' and allow everyone else in the world with a computer to enjoy it with us.

Here it is several days later, and I'm still thinking about the PSG show in Norwalk this past weekend.

Jody does so many things with his non-pedal playing technique playing, I think only Howard can describe it best, as he did in his post above. It was really something to see and enjoy!!!

That said, as it relates to non-pedal technique, an observation I made while watching these fantastic PSG Master Players perform, was Bobbe Seymour employing, an inordinate amount of slants/reverses & string pulls on his PSG during his performance...and in nearly all of his numbers. You would've thought he was playing non-pedal Steel.

Clearly, there are more ways to skin a cat or steelguitar as it were. These talented people showed us the way with their various playing styles. The moral is: Alas there is hope, yes, there is hope.

Thank you all for showing us the possibilities that can be, or at least, dreamed of.

Jody and this special JB Fender Steelguitar made History in Norwalk, CT, again......and I'm glad that history does repeat itself.

This was one of those times....TX

On Sunday, Bobbe's set was entirely on the Super Slide D8, employing those same techniques. What a learning experience this has been.

More photos & info to come.......

Thank's Howard,

Drat!!! We missed that set as we couldn't make it on Sunday & never got to hear it.

At least on Saturday, we were able to marvel at the Super Slide D8 Bobbe Seymour had at his table.....With the design, workmanship & inovations built in this non-pedal, it's no small wonder the aclain it is receiving...sure, it is expensive...But you get what you pay for.

It's heartening to know, that non-pedal is indeed getting some attention. Still, the JB Fender Steel stole the show and always will, IMHO.

Were the Fender people to put their mind's to it, they could really compete using the JB Fender Model as a prototype, preferably a D8.

With imput from Jody and so many talented people on this Forum, it's my conviction they can compete.

I hope that history will repeat itself, and it should. TX

Another thought with regard to non pedal technique......Bobbe was playing Jeff DeMaio's Emmons. There might have been some other changes or a bit of a different set up than Bobbe uses.

This is where having a good non pedal foundation is an asset to pedal players, and certainly on the C6 neck.

I also think that Bobbe sold Jeff's steel, 'cause he left the show early on Sunday....

Does anyone have an audio copy cd or cassette
tape of the PSGA show? If so I will gladly pay for the cd or and tape and postage and time spent. This event was a wonderful tribute to a great steel guitarist and they who picked Jody to perform on the Jerry Byrd instrument could not have picked a finer human being and Fender Legend as Jody. If anone know of an audio version of this segment please e mail me.I'm proud of my grandfather.

Thank you for your compliments as being chosen to play Jerry Byrd's Fender guitar.

There is heart and soul in that guitar and as I played it I felt as though I was not worthy of playing the guitar that an Icon and master played so well. No One but No One, could ever recapture the soul of Jerry's sound and technique his touch and feelings while he with little effort made all his guitars sound beautiful. I will never ever forget that day as long as I live

It was an Honor to just touch that special guitar let alone play it. Jerry is gone but forever will remain in my heart as well as all of your hearts.

Thank you Howard for giving me the opportunity to sit at Jerrys guitar.

There will be others, but there will only be ONE JERRY BYRD. And my thanks to My family Marie,Han's,Greg Lorrie, Casey and to a special friend who traveled many miles to see this event. Thanks to all of you. May the Big Dodger in the sky take care of you and those you love..DODGER BLUE FOREVER ***

I'm listening to "Satin Strings Of Steel", the album Jerry Byrd used this guitar on. It sounds pretty amazing - along with the great Fred Foster/Monument production. You almost expect to hear Roy Orbison chime in . .
The guitar sounds killer on the album - I sure would like to hear Jody Carver play it.
On the liner notes of the LP it says the guitar is a 7 string. Who was doing the counting that day?

I believe there was also another guitar used on "Satin Strings" as I have read somewhere.

I agree. Every master has their own sound and vibe, unique unto themselves. A signature if you will.

If I were a producer, I would produce a cd of the most accomplished players each doing a number on the JB Fender.

Thank you Rick and Howard and to all of you.

I will be back to post my comments of my findings of Jerry Byrd's guitar. That is a great guitar and would and should take a better player than I to show its full potential and yes, I certainly make Fender aware of what was back then. I certain thos at Fender are seeing this and I hope when I get to Anaheim this January god willing that I will be able to offer my suggestions to somehow re-create that beauty of a guitar in three formats single neck Double Neck and a Triple neck if so desired.

Thank you again Howard and Rick and to everyone of you. Playing Jerry's guitar was a honor for me, but no one but no one could get the feeling that Jerry got out of all his guitars. This has been a very special day for me and I just can't find the words to say how I feel, I have made my family and friends so very happy. Three stars for those I love *** Dedicated to my dear friends
