Merci, CrowBear! I really enjoyed that. Finding beauty in simplicity is a lesson I have to learn and re-learn in my own playing. Sounds like a major 7th tuning on that first cut.

Fantastic!! Thanks, CrowBear! I was aware of Oyens through his website but had never really heard him play before, didn't even know he was Brazilian.

Crowbear,

Adair Torres does a lot of P S G work in Sao Paulo. He pays an Emmons. Matthew Prouty down there provided his URL on another thread.

I'm gonna write Adair . . . when my Portuguese gets a little better!

Obrigado, Urso do Corvo!

I can't seem to find any information on how to buy his album -- did I overlook something?

Just contacted Adair the other day and he is a super great guy. He gives lessons on dobro and steel, at least he has in the past and I am going over on Friday morning to chat with him and try to convience him to give me lessons. He seems pretty keen on it already. He is the main man down here and has recorded with a hosts of artists here in Brazil. He speaks great English as well so if you want to write him do so. He is "off-line" though so it will have to be through snail mail. He has a studio in his house and to avoid virus threats he does not use the Internet.

Muito obrigado CrowBear! Essa música é muito linda!

I sent him an e-mail asking how one can order his CD internationally (also a good opportunity to brush up my rusty Portuguese ).

Dear all,

I've been in touch with Christiaan in Rio, and I have some info about his CD and music:

quote:
I'm originally a drummer and still do a lot of work touring. I have toured with Marina Lima, Lulu Santos, Zelia Duncan (these last three I have produced some of their work as well), Cazuza, Milton Nascimento (he's singing a song with me on my coming CD), etc... I do a lot of production work here for many different artists, so I do not have a lot of free time to be writing in forums etc... My CD will be all Weissenborn, BTW.

About the CD:

quote:
My CD is in the pressing. Should be out early July. I'll let you know when it's ready. Haven't really worked out how the online ordering will work, possibly I'll have it distributed to a site like www.submarino.com.br or something like that so that I won't have the hassle of dealing with all the postage and handling bullsh*t. I will also make available some of the other songs through my site. The deal is I despise MP3s, I think they sound like sh*t and my album was recorded and mixed with a lot of attention drawn to the sound since I'm a record producer here in Rio.So we'll see how it goes. Maybe I can transform the audio into Windows Media or .ape files which beat the hell out of MP3s in terms of sound quality.

I posted the clips in Youtube so that I could get some word of mouth, ao any help you may give me in that department will be deeply appreciated. Just to hear that you play and that you enjoyed it and want to get the album made my day, so thanks!!

Christiaan will let me know when the CD is ready, and how we can get hold of it outside Brazil, and I will post the details here on the forum.

The tuning in the YouTube clip is B-F#-B-D#-A#-B (lo to hi).

Valeu Christiaan!

Fred.

Thanks, Fred. I'll want that CD. I love the mix of Weissenborn and Brazillian music. His tuning has the same intervals as the standard open D with the 2nd string A raised to C# giving you a Dmai7th tuning. All of AMERICA's 70s hits (Ventura Highway, etc) should fit nicely in that tuning!
