Steve Uhrik of RetroFret in New York City has alerted me to their sale of Joaquin Murphey's triple neck Bigsby steel guitar.

Their ad states:

Please contact us for pricing and status.

Anyone have an idea on the price?

Now, THAT's interesting! If it's on the level, it may well be one of the most valuable vintage steel guitars ever.

It sure would be interesting to know how the pickups are made.

Does anyone know anything about them?

If I put down $100 on it I wonder what the payments would be?

That vol. knob alone is worth the cost of any mere mortal steel.

A nice reply from the shop:

Lots of buzz about the steel, as well I imagined there would be. Always difficult to price an instrument this unique and historic. That being said - we asking $75,000. I'd be glad to send additonal photos if you have other questions, comments or feedback.

Best regards,

Steve

Okay, then, how much for just the volume knob?

Andy, I've dealt with Retrofret on a couple of purchases (neither of them were for $75K!) and they are definitely on the level. First class operation, and an AMAZING collection of instruments.

If we could get 75 fo-bro's to each pitch in $1000.00 we could buy it. Then we could pass it around every week. Kind of like a time share...

With shipping considered you could have it once every two years or so.

Gary, I like it! And when you looked back on your life, you'd know it was worth it-- you had the Holy Grail to yourself for a week! Uh, can you put a time-share on layaway?

Do you think I could get 75k for one of my kidneys on Ebay? It's only 42 years old!

At a price like that, I think the smartest thing for me to do is to walk by it, take a long~close l©©k (if they’ll let me) and say: “Ain’t that nice”? And then “Walk On By”! [That might be a good title for a song!]
