The new Jackson Steel Guitar really looks like a nice instrument. Lloyd Green has recently test drove one and posted a statement about the guitar. You can check out their website at www.jacksonsteelguitar.com[This message was edited by Nick Reed on 17 June 2006 at 10:16 PM.] |

To clarify any endorsements issues, here's the straight story, direct from Lloyd, only minutes ago: quote:
"I did play and keep for one week a new Jackson Steel, with no guarantees to David Jackson other than I would try it out and give him my impressions. Although David has been and continues to be my friend since he was a child, more than 40 years, I decided to not play his steel although it is a beautiful, innovative, space age superb sounding instrument. He and his daughter Dawn asked if I would give them a statement of what I think of the sound for use on their web site. I was happy to oblige. It has an outstanding tone in my view". "Meantime, Jeff Surratt called with the first Show Pro steel made. It is at least equal in tone and sound to the Jackson and is the steel I plan to use on future recording sessions along with my Sho-Bud LDG. In addition to the newest Gene Watson song, "Pretty Paper" on which I do an 8 bar solo with unique modulation and is in my opinion the best sounding Watson recording solo since "Farewell Party", I've cut a number of really good records with the Show Pro which will start surfacing in the next few months. Watson's song will be on a Christmas cd to be issued in October. Others on the cd with whom I used the Show Pro include Daryl Singletary and Crystal Gayle. On the other songs on which I played with Bill Anderson and "Little" Jimmy Dickens I used my Sho-Bud." "Finally, I have refused any future royalties from Jeff Surratt for sales of this steel but have accepted the steel to play. This thing is already causing quite a sensation among the players who have heard or played it, except Tommy White who played it the last time I was on the Opry before it was "tweaked". In summation, if any of you happen to pop into a session I'm playing steel guitar on you will see either a Show Pro or Show Bud under my hands". "If I may use a rather flaccid and sophomoric baseball analogy posted occasionally on this forum about one or another steeler hitting home runs or grand slams, I think Jeff may win the ball game with this steel". Well, looks like the Show-Pro was given to Loyd. So, Loyd turned down the Jackson, but liked the Show-Pro? I wonder how the piveting keys will hold up? I guess time will tell. [This message was edited by Curt Langston on 28 May 2006 at 12:17 PM.] |

There was recently a Serria on eBay, that was being sold as a piece of "country music history" because it toured several years in the 90s with Garth Brooks. The seller said it was one of two Steels that Serria gave to him, as part of am endorsement deal. I thought of that quote, Curt, as I read the description.Sorry for the topic drift, I should know better... |

Transatlantic syndrome, (I Hope) they're probably over there counting their blessings that Lloyd partially endorsed that there guitar of theirs. I thought it should have been 'Test Driven' ? Omit the 'HAS' and probably 'Drove' is correct.[This message was edited by basilh on 17 June 2006 at 08:11 AM.] |
