I have 2 Nashville 400 amps and was asked once whether they had 1501 or 1502 baskets in them. Could someone tell me how to tell which they have and what are the differences. Is one preferred over the other and does the age of the amp make a difference. The serial #'s are 3A-01568890 and 9A-03979119.Also could someone tell me what amp settings John Hughey uses on his Evans amp.John if your there you can answer in person. It would be an honor just to read your comments. Thanks, Rodney Leach [This message was edited by Rodney Leach on 11-22-99]

Rodney, I would be glad to try to help you with my settings. I'm using the single space pre- amp and I use a different setting when I am going "direct" in the studio as opposed to using speakers. I also had the "depth" and "expand" switches replaced with "pots" with knobs so that I can dial in however much of either, that I want. In the studio: Bass-4 Depth-1 o'clock Body-5 Expand-3 o'clock Treble-Between 2&3, closer to 2 ------------------------------- When using speakers: Bass-7 Depth-3 o'clock Body-Between 8&9 Expand-1 o'clock Treble-1 I use two-15" D-130 JBL speakers, 4-ohm Remember, these settings will vary with 2 identical amps; but it is a starting place Hope this helps a little. Hello Rodney, Thanks for your support of Peavey products. There is a white sticker next to the red and black speaker wire terminals that will indicate the model of the BW speaker. As far as the differences between the 1501 and 1502 models, there are voicing differences and it is a matter of preference when choosing either for your application. However, the 1501-4 ohm shallow basket is not the same 1501-4 ohm speaker as the early model of the '80's. The 1501-4 ohm shallow basket BW(item #00027010) was specifically voiced for steel guitar applications. It's predecessor was used in 2 or 3 applications, including steel guitar. The age of the amp doesn't matter, however we perform a circuit "enhancement" on the Nashville 400 now that revoices the equalization circuit. The cost is $50.00, plus parts costs, which are less than $5.00. Shipping of chassis to and from the factory is not included in this cost. If you would like to discuss the above, please feel free to contact me toll free(within the U.S.) at 1-877-732-8391. I look forward to speaking with you. Rodney,I have a set of 1501's and a set of 1502's. The 1501's seem to have a lot softer, warmer, sound. The 1502's have a more clear prominent sound with better individual note definition. I get nice, fat lows out of the 1501's and a bitey high response. I am now using one of each. I seem to have gotten a lot of "mud" when playing at high stage volumes with 2 1501's. I seem to get a "honky" nasally sound with 2 1502's. Using one of each works real well for me. I use the 1502 for the main channel, mainly because of the clarity. It may be worth a try, but bear in mind: What works well for one particular person, may or may not work well for someone else. ------------------ Bob Hempker

Bill, the "Spider" Black Widow that you own with the flat magnet structure was the first style of Black Widow that was introduced back in the late '70's. In some cases, the replacement basket must simply be rotated on the magnet structure until it lines up properly using a newer basket. I suggest that you send the complete Spider assembly to us here at the factory for repair. Our service address is: Peavey Service Center Highway 80 East Meridian, MS 39301 If you wish, you may phone me at 1-877-732-8391 to discuss. Mike Brown: Is the 1502 designed primarily for bass guitar applications? Does the frequency response suggest a brighter or mellower sound? Thanks, ------------------ Jeff Is the latest the greatest?

And how about the 1505: is it intended for PA applications or instrumental amps, too?JE

Hello Jeff, The 1502 Black Widow speaker is used in a lot of our bass guitar applications, but hasn't been used in steel guitar applications since the Session 400 Limited. In approximately mid 1997, we started using the 1501-4 ohm speaker in all steel guitar amps and it is specifically designed for the voicing of a steel guitar. The frequency response can determine how much low frequencies or high frequencies that the speaker can reproduce, but there are "tricks" that can also be performed with the voice coil to obtain more low or high frequencies. But, I wouldn't advise purchasing a speaker based primarily on its' frequency response. The frequency response can be boosted or cut at certain frequencies by changing the voice coil windings either by wire gauge or the number of windings. Our competitors in the steel guitar market have used the Peavey 1501-4 ohm shallow basket Black Widow as a standard to "voice" their speakers by. The U.S. MSRP for the Peavey 1501-4 ohm shallow basket speaker is $165.99, but if you need just the replacement basket, its retail price is $85.99. If I can be of further assistance, please don't hesitate to call me toll free at 1-877-732-8391 and I'll be glad to assist you.
