Gentlemen (& Ladies); I have spent the last two days in session with a new bar, a John Pearse bar. It is an incredible tone enhancer. It increased my sustain on ol' Blondie, as well. My BJS will just be staying home from now on. I highly recommend any and all to check out the Pearse product.

I agree. Several years ago; my good friend Herb Steiner walked up to me while I was playing(mid solo; I might add); and handed me a John Pearse bar and said: "Ricky try this". I haven't have'nt stopped using it since. The reason it is so dang good is: Well Herb didn't explain it to me; so I won't. He just handed it over; and it did all the explaining I wanted. Enjoy.

Oh Herb; I bet you forgot that story; didn't you? I never will; and I just remembered that it's been 8 years ago when you did that; "THANK YOU".

Mike,

Thanks for the info, I'll have to try one. I also wanted to compliment you on your playing. You are on several gospel albums that I've listened to lately and I'm impressed!

The bars are so good 'cause they're solid stainless(cryogenic-treated....it works, I guess) and polished to a beautiful finish. No plating here folks. Best bars ever.
Contact Michelle at 800-235-3302. While you're at it, try some of their strings too.

Ah yes, Ricky... now I remember through the glass darkly. I bought about a dozen of John's cryogenic bars from him in both pedal steel and Hawaiian sizes when he came to Austin for the 1992 guitar show. You got one, Mike Fried got one, and I forget who all else got the others. I kept two of each size and still have an use them. Good stuff.

John makes and sells a wonderful string, as well. They are nickel, however, and I am currently using stainless. I swap off every couple of years, usually. Keeps things interesting.

Cryogenically treated materials show a marked increase in wear resistance without any discernable change in dimensional or volumetric integrity. Machining treated material is easier and cleaner. Redressing or regrinding treated tools removes less stock material resulting in longer tool life. Although the material is stronger following treatment, it shows little or no change in yield or tensile strength. The treated material becomes less brittle, without a change in original hardness. The most significant and consistent change is the increased toughness, stability and wear resistance. The Process is also used extensively to relieve residual and tensile stresses.

Folks, this bar continues to amaze me. The tone it produces has rekindled a fire that reminds me of my (extreme) youth. (I am still a spring chicken, ya know!) You gotta try one; you'll never go back!

John Pearse also makes a thermo cryonic bar in a Hawiian size. I use it with my National double 8 and it sounds and feels great!

I sat in with some friends tonight, and brought 4 different bars to the club. A BJS, a Red Jajah, my Zirconia bar, and the John Pearce Bar. The Pearce bar sounded noticably brighter and louder than the others.

I became a believer tonight.

Don,

Yes, that's the one. It's actually "ThermoCryonic," but hey... why nitpick? Yes, they do make different bars, a larger one and one for Hawaiian guitar. I'm sure they are excellent, as well.

I've been using a Pearse bar for several years and love it. Not only great tone, but after many drops and lots of rattling around in the case not a mark or scratch on it.
