I am doing a survey of Pedal Steel players in the areas surrounding Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. If you are interested in letting me interview you please e-mail me: rckelly@uiuc.edu. This is to aid me in my Master's thesis. Thank you, Ryan

Please call, I wll be happy to talk with you...

Tim Harr
(317) 845-9768

Please, check out the "Rose Bowl" there in town
Wed-Sat. There is a steel player there named Jerry Erickson (aka - "Mutton Head")

You will be very impressed as he is the BEST Without a Doubt .. steel player in Central Illinois - - Hands Down!! Those that disagree need to get over themselves and go hear him ASAP..

Besides being a fabulous musician he has a wealth of knowledge in reference to this instrument.

Also, Ron Riddle in Bloomington area and Billy Peddycourt in Champ. Billy played in the talent search ths past year at the International Steel Guitar Conventio. in St Louis.

On up into Peoria you will find Dean "Dino" Dobbins, Brian Stear, John Holm, Paul Hill, Larry Watson, Donny Vore, and Jimmy Waters.

I just left the Peoria area to accept a day job with the State of Indiana. So, now I live in a North suburb of Indianapolis..... but like I said if you woud like to discuss Steel Guitar ..Please Call.

Best of Luck to you

Other steel players in the central Illinois area include: my husband, Dyke Corson. He and I both play with the Modern Cowboyz Band, and he also plays at the Rosebowl in Urbana on Sunday and Tuesday nights. Rich Mounce plays steel there on Wednesday through Saturday nights. That's not all...John Wheeler at the Bement Opry, John Lerna from Lerna, Scotty Baker of Thomasboro, Mike Webb of Lincoln, and Brian Wilke, Bob Watson, and Steve Strong all great players from Champaign. Someday I hope to be able to add my own name to this list. The great Mike Cass has just rebuilt my Dad's old Sho-Bud. When I get it back I'll be dusting off Dyke's old Jeff Newman instructional tapes and learning some licks! My Dad would be proud!

Oops, sorry I was in a hurry...

John SAWYER from Lerna, IL instead of John Lerna from Lerna!

Also, Rich Mounce plays steel at the Rosebowl on Wednesdays and Jerry Erickson plays on the Thursday through Saturdays nights. Sorry guys...I'm new!

Thanks,
Chrissy

Chrissy,

I can't believe that I forgot to list Dyke!! Ooopps! Sorry Dyke.

If you are in the Central Illinois area be sure to check out Dyke and Chrissy's band:
Modern Cowboyz
They have two pedal steel players!! Dyke and Troy King. Very nice group.

Also, if you are in the Champaign-Urbana area and want to talk steel or order something, Dyke owns 'Corson Music' Check it out. He is good people.

Thanks

Yeah, Jerry Erickson! He was a Colorado boy for 20 something years and a good friend, and plays great. Check him out for sure. Plays excellent guitar, too, as well a great engineer.

I would like to mention some North-Central Illinois players, including myself. I am Glenn Rieuf, Jr. from Marseilles, Ill., and I currently live in Franklin, TN. I have been palying steel with the John Anderson band for ten years. Other Ill. players that live in Nashville are Bob Angello, from Tonica, Ill., and Al Angello, from Oglesby, Ill. My teachers and mentors are Evelyn Brue-Roeder, who lives in Ottawa, Ill., and Don Howe, who lives in Streator, Ill. Evelyn taught Hawaiian style and Don plays the Nashville tunings. He has a music store in Streator called Don's Music Supply and deals in steels.

Howdy,
Thanks for accolades Tim, you're a fine player
yourself. There's one other guy who plays great too, and that's Dave Chockley from somewhere up around Galesburg. The thing that really makes me appreciate Dave is his guitar setup. His pedals are "Emmons" and his knee levers are "Day". Talk about a broken ankle when you try to play Dave's guitar!!!
The Rose Bowl is on Race St. Across from the Courier(sp) Cafe, close to Jumer's Hotel. We get to play lots of older country stuff, which Rich is an encyclopedia of. Definitely get in to see Dyke play too!!
