This may have been a topic awhile ago, but anyhow, back in the late 70's, I used to listen to the Sho-Bud showcase show every Saturday night driving home from the gig after 2 in the morning. You could pick up WSM (66 on the AM dial) for hundreds of miles away after dark. They used to interview various steelers around town. Anyone else remember it?------------------ [This message was edited by Jay Ganz on 10-13-99]

Jay, we had a thread on the forum about that about a year ago. I remember it well. Like you, I used to listen to it going home from jobs. The theme song was Red Wing.

Jack is right about the previous thread a while back. I was a kid who became hooked on pedal steel partly because of that show. Yikes!!, I must be getting more mature as that was a while back....

YES!! I remember the Sho-Bud Show Case. In fact, I appeared on this show twice back in the early 70's. It was sponsored by the Sho-Bud Guitar Company, and was hosted by Jack Bowles. (Don't know if I spelled his last name correctly?) In any event, it was a great show, especially for the steel players, and it would indeed be great to have something like that going on again. HEY NASHVILLE, ARE YOU LISTENING!!![This message was edited by Danny Hullihen on 10-12-99]

Yes...Great show! Now we need another 50KW station to pick up the ball!(that's about the only way you'll get an audience at 2:00 a.m.)

I also was interviewed by Jack Bowles in 75 on this show, shortly after being hired by Gretsch as Sho-Bud Product Mgr. I remember the Theme song was off a Buddy Emmons&Shot jackson Album! Wow those were the days for Steel Guitar! Your Forum friend Al Udeen

I listened to the Old Sho-Bud Show Case almost every Sat. Nite when it was on. The first time I heard Lloyd Greens " Ten Shades of Green" was on one of those shows. Now theres a steel guitar album!

I too remember listening to the Sho Bud Sho Case, enjoyed it much. I taped a lot of the shows. There was a lot of good steel players on there. If I remember correctly, it was on just before the Grand Old Opry, or was it right after? Also Earnest Tubb had a show on the same night from his Record Store. Remember?..al

Hey! B-I-N-G-O! I've got a tape of that program. They interviewed JERRY BYRD. It was a fine show and sure wish they had someting comparable today. The interviewer was right on the ball. That's where I felt SGWM fell short. Numerous interviews started off fine but then ran out of steam. They ended up with "what salad dressing do your like on your greens?" I want to know who is who; what guitar? what amp settings, etc. GREAT SHOW!

My friend and steel teacher introduced me to the "Sho Case" in '77 just when I became a student of pedal steel. The show was aired in Memphis at 2:00 am; could barely pick it up. The only guest I can remember being interviewed is Buddy Emmons since I was new to the steel world. Wish there was a way to get tape copies of some of the shows--- oh well. Skip--75 Emmons

I have worked a few jobs with Jack Bowles and Beckey Baker. He and I have talked about the old ShoBud showcase and he says he has all the tapes and is thinking about making them available. He will be happy to know there are players out there who have an interest in the old show.------------------

I remember the Showcase well. Jack Boles interviewed Ray Emmett and myself back in the mid 70's when we both worked with Faron. ------------------
