This is not intended to cause any arguments or any problems i am concerned about souls. I know the bible says go out into the highways and hedges, And it says shun the appearance of evil and all kinds of things which i love the entire bible. But i see people dying all around me and many i dont think knows Jesus. Plus most of us have relatives in the same shape. What about a big Gospel steel convention and let the secular players play also, but all music be gospel with some singing and whoever wants to give a plug for Jesus can do that to. Let Jesus be the star of this convention. I believe it would bring some in. Good thought i hope. All feedback welcomed. God Bless All! Gary Steele Central Ohio gs@megsinet.net

Gary, talk to Chuck Campbell and the other Sacred Steel players. They have been working on this issue for the last century, and have come to some thoughts on it. As Christian steel players, you should have a lot to talk about.

Gary,

I've been playing in a gospel group for the last eleven years. I was also playing in bars on weekends but I quit that about three years ago.

Psalm 33:2 (KJV) says "Praise him with an instrument of ten strings." I do (ok, ok, so it's 20 strings).

Gary,

Although I like playing country music, especially old country, I am solely playing gospel in my "public" appearances. I play for the Dayton Ambassadors Gospel Quartet out of Dayton, OH.

Phil Perry and Skip Tannery's direction to Doug Rolfe should be just what you are looking for. Doug's annual event in the Indianapolis area is reportedly very good and Doug is a fine Christian man.

Gary, I am currently playing with our worship team at Berean Baptist Church (larger Twin Cities congregation)every other Sunday, only because that's all my schedule will allow.I had played with country western/rock groups in the past and STILL enjoy doing country & gospel!

I think you have a great i idea, and i support it in every way.. but this is my little two cent's worth.. I play gospel alot with local gosple groups, but also love playing country And swing as well as jazz..
Is it really fair to take to gift god has given us to make all men happy, and restrict it to one group of people?
To praise his name is dedication to him, but to do his work, i feel we need to branch out and reach all men..
OH well, just my 2 cent's love ya brother!

Put my name in the hat as a Christian Steel Player also. I have had the honor and priviledge of playing steel for the LORD Jesus Christ for about 18 years. Most recently the LORD blessed the group I played with in the Tulsa area, Cornerstone with our first project. I was able to include 2 steel instrumentals besides the 10 vocal cuts on this project. I also do sessions in some of the studios in the Tulsa area, some are secular some are Christian sessions. Christian steel players are finally making themselves known around the conventions. I personally have had the honor of being invited to play at the TSGA convention in Dallas for the last 4 years, and also on the Tulsa show. Chrisian steel guitar msuic is some of the best music this side of heaven. Another great Christian steel player you need to give an ear to is none other than Texas great Jr. Knight, one of the finest in the business.

That's a smashing idea you have about a Gospel Steel Show. I'd like to possibly do a live remote broadcast from it on WEKT. Nick

Fellows, do yourselves a favor and add Johnny Buffingtons CD to your collection. The lead throughout the CD is primarily steel and Johnny plays great commercial steel. There is one lick on the alblum that is worth the price of the CD alone and that is on the song "What A Friend we have in Jesus". Stands the hair up on the back of my neck. The singer is not the greatest voice but the steel playing is superb.

Thanks Jerry and everyone else who responded. When we set something up we will let everyone know in advance. I believe we should get people saved then let the lord and the pastors help them. The Bible says we (must) be Born Again to enter the kingdom of Heaven. I played steel and sang in the clubs for years but after finding Jesus i have no desire for it anymore. Life is short and sometimes real short and when that ole Casket lid goes shut on me i want to know the Lord as my Personal Savior. When a man gets saved he finds out real quick who his friends are. Join the family of God and when you do you will say boy i wish i would have done that a long time ago. Please keep responding to this. This is not a closing to this subject. Happy Holidays to everyone and thanks to all. Gary Steele Columbus Ohio 614-836-0070 gs@megsinet.net

The first weelend of May 2000 There will be an all gospel show in Indy. This is about the 7th or 8th anual event. No spectacular players though. About the best we have been able to come up with are some unknowns like Herby Wallace, Doug Jernigan, Reese Anderson, Stu Basore, Joan(Herndon)Cox, Duane Marrs, Bill Stafford, Larry Sasser, David and Chuck Spires and some guy named Hal Rugg on the mayhap list for this time.
You can contact drolfejr@aol.com for more info on the show.
God Bless !!

Ditto's to John Buffington and the Cornerstone CD. If you like country licks on gospel CD then this is the CD to get. He don't let up on this one. You'll definitely be busy with licks.
(Now how do I do that lick you showed me John)? ha ha

Hi folks.. Born Again, theres really been a change in me.. Hey that should be a song! I have played steel guitar for many years and playing gospel music has been my greatest reward. Through my country music career, I ended up as an alcoholic and spent 9 weeks in a rehabiltaion centre. After accepting Jesus into my life, things changed and I now own Ambassador Records here in Canada for his glory. Ambassador means: Ambassadors for Christ and my dedication is for his service. I turned down a New Years gig this year for $1200.00 to go and play two songs at Bayfair Baptist church and I feel very honored to be there. I believe that all need encouragement and a Gospel convention would be a great idea. Thanks Paul..

Hi y'all
I'm new to the forum, but I have to say that it is great to see so many Christian PSG players who will take a stand for the Lord.
I played guitar in a Gospel band, but two years ago decided that we really didn't need three guitars, so I started playing the steel instead. (Sierra Session D-10)
A few weeks ago, the worship leader at my church asked me if I'd play the steel in our worship service. I've played bass, banjo and guitar in church, but I wasn't sure how a steel would be received. There were nothing but favorable comments, even though I did nothing really outstanding. It looks like I've found another place to play steel for the Lord!
I really love the old hymns on the steel.
I think a Gospel Steel Convention would be a great idea... It'd be fun to meet some other Christian players!
