Carter PATENTS Body-ContactTM Technology! Bud Carter and World Class Steels, Inc. dba Carter Steel Guitars have received the Patent for Body-ContactTM Technology, a highly revolutionary breakthrough in pedal steel guitar design. BCT allows the Carter to be the only all-pull steel guitar whose changer fingers make direct contact with the wood in the steel guitar body. BCT changes the way the string energy is transferred throughout the steel guitar. BCT is a Unique Sound Transfer Technology that allows the pedal steel guitar to create a better tone and a more consistent sound. The overall spectrum of the sound is consistently equal: a highly sought-after characteristic by builders and players everywhere. BCT has been built into Carters since late-July 1998. So, over 200 Carter owners have had a chance to field test this new technology. They consistently remark on “how much improvement there is in the tone, sustain, action, and feel of these Carters over the older models”. In keeping with its consistent commitment to downward compatibility of improvements for all Carter customers, Carter Steel Guitars is happy to announce its BCT UpGrade Program for older Carters. Carters with either Serial Numbers lower than 90658199-20 or received before July 1998 can be UpGraded with this new BCT Technology**. For more information, CONTACT: (800) 969-7332 Orders, UpGrade Scheduling **Carter Owners who received their Carter during July-September 1998 or who have problems deciphering their Serial Number, may contact Ann Fabian at Carter Steel Guitars if they are unsure whether their Carter already has BCT or not. Congratulations! To you Ann, John and Bud for this great step forward in steel guitar. I can personlly vouch for the difference in the sound. I played a friend"s S12 carter that was an older model, and although the sound was good, it did not compare to the sound I got on my D10 1999 model Keep up the good work and Have a prosperous year 2000 in this next Century...al |

Nice to hear. Is this visible anywhere in your web-site diagrams, for example in the all pull changer diagram? Thanks, Bob |

Bob: As you know, your Carter has this new technology on it. Our patent is so recent, we do not have diagrams on our site yet. Here is what we have announced on our site at this point. Ann Fabian |

Hmmm. Looks like I'll have to wait for the Cliff's Notes version - I just got a kink in my cortex from reading the details of the preferred embodiment. I hope I'm not sounding sarcastic - I really do appreciate the announcement and the reference to the patent. I think I'd have to get used to the 'patentese', print it all out, and put the detailed description together with the figures. Then do some serious focussing. Until then, the guitar sounds great. I'd talked to John F a little about this pending patent, and I'm glad to see you got it (and I got the benefits). Thanks Ann & thanks Brad. |

Now I know why my '99 sounds so much better than my '97 did...I was kinda hoping it was me! |

Thanks for posting the link, Brad. Bud, that's a very clever invention. Congratulations! Any plans to license this technology to other builders? ------------------ |
