I just got back from Orlando. Only had time for one evening of night clubing (bar hopping). I was impressed with the house band "Cheyenne Stampede" at Church Street Station. Trent Moody (bass), Herby Wallace jr (drums), Mike Hitch (steel, fiddle, and lead), Tracey Carpenter (lead), Billy Varnes (lead), April McDowell (vocal). All of the band sang. Excuse me bandmembers, if I didn't get all of the info and names right. I could barely read my own writing the next morning. Too much lead in the water. I think our party of 8 partied until closing? Great band, great picking and vocals. If anyone gets a chance to hear this group, you won't be disappointed. They're very hospitable and fun to talk to on breaks too.
By the way, Herby doesn't look like his dad. He said he inhereted his mother's genes. Got to be his dad's musical genes though?
Thanks for a good time,
Dennis

I was told Doug left the band last year, after being there for many years.

Doug left Church Street Station a few years ago to go to Disney World. (Sounds like a good commercial). He called me and offered me the position at CSS, but was unable to make a move to Florida from Minnesota, (Yes, I'm crazy, too).
Doug used to play in northern Minnesota. I've known him for about 20 years. Great player and a nice guy.

My best,
Ernie

In the Orlando area DO NOT MISS the chance to hear Wally Murphy. I heard him in a large club near the horse race track.

Ernie: Doug had come back to Church Street for the last 4 or 5 years, but "retired" from full time playing last year to take a job as a fiber optics tech. Still playing various shows from time to time and sits in at Church Street for Mike on occassion. He, Jackie, and the kids are doing fine and they are all glad that Dad is home in the evenings to help with the homework.

Wayne: The club Wally plays at is the Post Time Lounge on Hwy 17/92 at Dog Track Road. He a feature of the Lucky Dog band that is their house band and plays there 4 nights a week.
