I'm probably the last steeler in the world to learn Nitelife. Can anybody help with chords to the original Ray Price version.

Jake

Go to the links on b0b's home page and look up Herby Wallaces'site ( Herby Wallace Productions). He use to have tabbed out cords for nightlife ( on C6th)
that you could order and I think it came with a cassette tape . I would doubt it was cord for cord , or even in the same major key as Ray Price's original but it would be good to get most of the cords in Nightlife .

Hope this helps -- it's a fine song and a good instrumental on steel. Good
luck !

John

Dear Jake,

Here are the changes:

Intro:

D/F7/BbMaj7/Eb7

Verse:

D/D/D7/D7
G/G/C7/C7
D/B7#9/E7/A7

(Repeat Intro & Verse)

D/D/D/D

Chorus:

D/D/D/D
D/D/D/D7
G/G/D/D
D/D/A7/A7

3rd Verse:

D/D/D7/D7
G/G/C7/C7
D/B7#9/E7/A7 ***

(Repeat intro; Steel solo is over verse changes)

(Repeat entire form to the asterisks)

D/G/D/D7

Keep in mind that these are just the very basic chord symbols (the way you might see them written in a "Real Book" or "Fake Book"). On the Price version, you will hear Buddy Emmons playing extensions and substitutions of these chords.

For example the litteral chord names for the steel intro are:

D add9/F7/BbMaj7/Eb7#11.

Over the C7 you will hear Emmons play a
C13#11.

For the E7 Emmons plays an E9th chord.

Over the 2nd bar of the verses, you can hear different variations of Eb dominant chords while the bass continues to play a "D" pattern.

There are other cool variations as well.

I hope this helps.

Best wishes,

Jim

Jake,
I, too, am one of the last holdouts on Night Life. Thanks Jim for the chords. Night Life is a great melody. I think you could almost get away with playing it as a solo in church.
