![]() ![]() i just got my brand new Elvis, (doing country), CD. Everything on it is wonderful...a bunch of stuff that never charted but just sound great. One song I just listened to was "Just call me lonesome, (not that one), recorded in 1967 and just killed me. The Steel in it sounds like Ralph Mooney or Tom Brumley or maybe even Jimmy Day. Does anyone know who played on this one. I haven't listened to all these yet but every one I've heard has made me think it was $25 well spent. |

![]() ![]() There is a picture in the back of the liner notes of the Golden Steel Guitar Hits/Steel and Strings CD of Jimmy Day playing what looks like a Fender Stringmaster with Elvis Presley in Longview, Texas, dated 1955. |

![]() ![]() Good deal, Randy! I remember the 8 track tape that I used to have, titled "Elvis Country". I don't recall any steel guitar on it. Sounds interesting!! |

![]() ![]() OK folks...here it is, (got a call from my wife). It is Time Life and the number is Elvis Presley Collection "Country" You'll have to put up with them sending you another cd later but you can choose to have them stop sending more. It'll be fun to compare notes after you all get yours. God Bless you all Randy |

![]() ![]() Jimmy Day and Elvis played together in 1955 while Jimmy was the staff player at the Louisina Hayride. I have an interesting interview where Jimmy recalls the old times and that he played with Elvis for a couple of month, how he got that Fender steel and so on... If someone is interested in the facts, it will be my pleasure to post them here. ------------------ [This message was edited by Tele on 08 February 2000 at 12:46 PM.] |

![]() ![]() I think most of the steel work with Little E in the 60's was PROBABLY done by Pete Drake. |

![]() ![]() I can't recall now whether Charlie Owens sent me this or if I scanned it from the CD--I'm pretty sure it is a Charlie Owens photo. [This message was edited by Jon Light on 08 February 2000 at 02:04 PM.] |

![]() ![]() Several months before Elvis died, I was in Burlington, NC at the Emmons factory. And the late Fred Trogdon (Emmons installation engineer), had just received a call from Elvis' road manager and said Elvis was interested in including the pedal steel in some upcoming recordings. He spent considerable time with Fred going over details. Fred was on cloud nine. The world will never know what that would have sounded like. Just imagine players and builders, where we would be today if he had lived and had in fact used a pedal steel on a few recordings. And ain't NO way it would have been "bad R & R" either. Elvis started it and it was always good R & R. That I like, even though "I was born in another time" God bless him and all of you, carl |

![]() ![]() Guys, for what its worth, I think Lloyd Green did steel work for Elvis on a lot of country songs. Not sure if its him on that particular one tho. I think he stayed about a week doing the album. I know "moving on" and "there goes my everything" was a couple of the songs off of the "Memphis " album. Hope this helps. ![]() ![]() I played on a couple of elvis's albums. "Elvis In Memphis" & "Elvis Back In Memphis". I just did a couple of tunes on each one. I had done a couple of tunes on the "Box Top's" album and Elvis heard it and liked it and asked me to play on his. It was a great HONOR. John Hughey |

![]() ![]() John H., you can't imagine how excited I am to hear you're on some of them. It just makes sense. In my first post, I almost asked if it was you but I figured you were with Conway about that time. Man , I would have looked really discerning if I'd just followed my gut in that first post. God Bless you John |
