![]() ![]() In the 1980s there was a great Western Swing Band from Maryland called "Cowboy Jazz" As far as I know, they made just two records. They had one hot steelpicker by the name of Barry Sless. Can anyone tell me if they made more records, if these 2 records are on CD yet and if Barry Sless is still playing steel? Thanks. Hans |

![]() ![]() Hans... I managed the band back in those days and we had a 2 record deal with Rounder. Deanna Bogart went on to do some other recording, and Barry and the rest went their own way. JB tuned you in on where to catch Sless. Barry also does some local studio work when in the area. He sill remains a good friend and is one hell of a picker. Another monster member was Denise Carlson (Fiddle). She lost a boat load of weight, got married, and has a couple of kids living on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. She was a real blast to hang with. I've heard that she and Kate Bennet (Vocals) sometimes get together for gigs. Anyway... Barry just did some cuts on a local artist Jay Henley. www.JayHenley.com . Guitar work is by a great local guitarist Bryant Lithicum. Jeff Hyman |

![]() ![]() I saw Barry play pedal steel guitar with The David Nelson Band just last Spring... it was a treat to hear a good pedal steel guitarist up close in a small room. [This message was edited by Mike Dennis on 14 February 2000 at 07:41 AM.] |
