We just got back home from our trip to see and hear Ronnie Miller playing his heart out with Charley Pride. I haven't heard him play since I used to go to the Zanzabar in Denver. Let me say what a thrill for us to get to sit in the front row at the Sundome Theatre For The Performing Arts and hear him play. Ronnie met us at the Pride consession booth before the concert and took my wife Margie and I, along with his nephew and friend back stage to meet Charley and some of the players in the band. He let me look over his GFI steel and I took some pictures of it along with him before the show. He had a real pretty red and black S-10 with pad Matchbox and Profex II and a FX unit I can't remember the name of, but he could make it sound like bells on certain tunes. He had a real sweet tone similar to the tone of the live album at Panther Hall. The guitar player Billy Martin played a lot of nicely arranged twin licks with Ronnie on some of the tunes they did. Charley was really into the music and entertained an audience of aproximatly 5500 people mostly older than me. He did a 45 minute show took 15 minutes for a break and then came back to do another 35 to 40 minute show and took requests from the people. His voice is strong and showed why after 30 years of doing this music he can still knock em dead. Charley also shows off all his pickers and featured the band on a hot instrumental called Sawed Off Shotgun with Ronnie smokin it on his GFI. I must say he also played some real pretty Brumley style licks in Faded Love which featured an 11 year old boy named Grant Gannon who did a great version of this classic song. I wanted to let any of you folks know if you ever get the chance to meet Ronnie and hear him play do it as he will make you very welcome. Charley was given two standing ovations and left for home before the last note died out. Thanks for listening and take care all. Bob a special thanks to you for this Forum and the ability to rekindle old friendships. P.S Let us remember with music our forum members who have recently and not so recently passed on. I too saw the Charlie Pride show a couple of months back, and it's one of the best musical and entertaining shows that I have seen in many a moon. Ronnie takes the steel to new heights when he plays, not only straight steel, but also with the synthesizer. Ronnie will be playing at the Smoky Mountain Steel Guitar Jamboree. I just received word from Ronnie that there is a distinct possibility that the whole Pridesmen Band will be with him. I sure will be looking forward to that.
