You guys have about 45 minutes to do yourselves a REAL favor. IF you're close to Ft. Worth, get thee to Big Balls in Cowtown. Dickie Overby is playing in a band there from 6 til 10. Wish I could go, but it's 200 miles south of here. You lucky people in the metroplex head out that way and listen to some great playing! And if you go, PLEASE report back so I can at least enjoy it vicariously. Les.

Les,I took a "busmans holiday" last week and went to Bandara Texas. Stopped by Arkey Blues and visited with Dusty Britches and his band.Dickie was playing steel and Kenny Groman stopped by. Kenny had a broken picking hand and could only watch. We had a ball and Dickie played the devil out of his old D-10 Sho-Bud.

Hey Les, I just got home from Big Balls. Our fiddle player with Pride, Reggie Rueffer was playing there and I went down to hear him. He told me last week Dickie would be there subbing for Gary Carpenter. That's the first time I have seen Dickie play anything but an Emmons, he was playing a Sho Bud ProIII. He sounded great. I don't know the name of the Band but it was good ole Texas Country Music.Price, Bush, Gene Watson, well you get the idea. Definitely a Garth free zone. They really got after it, and everyone there was really enjoying themselves. I am sure glad I made the trip....Ronnie

I don't think I have seen anyone have as much fun as Dickie does playing steel, especially on C6th. I haven't ever seen him play anything but that old dark green Sho-Bud.And you're right, it's a Garth/Shania free zone when his band kicks off. Les.

My favorite Dickey Overbey playing is on Hank Jr's Whiskey Bent and Hell Bound. Definetly a great, classic Sho-Bud tone.------------------ The Young Steelkid

I just talked to him on the phone and he says hi to the forum and "watch out" cuz he's coming on line very soon!He said to tell everyone that "Dickie's comin' and he's after their asses!" Hope he does, he's a blast, and a damned good player. Les

I had the great opportunity of seeing Dickey Overby play at Big Balls in Cowtown Sunday. He was excellent, ending the night playing great stuff on Night Life. He was playing with the Outsiders, a quartet with fiddle and steel, that played classic country songs in the Ray Price / Johnny Bush vein for four hours. Dickey took many memorable solos. The bass player was 23 year old Jake Hooker, who is a great singer, and loves to sing classic country songs - how refreshing this was. Reggie Rueffer was on fiddle and vocals, and together they sang great harmonies. I sent up a list of four Ray Price tunes - The Other Woman, Tearful Earful, I'm Not Crazy Yet, and Each Time - and they ripped off all four in a row. And of course, Dickey was superb.I also had the opportunity of seeing Johnny Bush at the Stagecoach in Fort Worth on Friday, which was truly wonderful, and then saw Merle Haggard at Billy Bob's Saturday. It was a lucky time to be in Fort Worth. Shane Streifel Washington DC
