I have to say that my personal favorite Dire Straits CD does not have Paul on it. It's the band's 1979 album "Communique".

From a guitarist's point of view, I think it's the single best album in the entire history of rock and roll. I think Mark Knopfler gave it everything he had, and afterwards, he knew he could never compete with it so he wisely started changing the band's line up and sound.

Alex. Get the video also, there are som nice shots of Paul playing steel and acoustic steel. And if you dont have it, get the Notting Hillbillies album (Presumed missing....having a good time). It is Mark Knopfler with some guitar friends, and Paul is all over it, playing just the way most steelplayers would sell their wife to be able to. The most relaxing album you`ll ever find.
Tore.

Yes, most likely.

Get *On the Night* first. The solo on "Walk of Life" is absolutely awesome. If you fully understood PF's approach to that solo, you'd be one excellent steel player.

Holy Smokes! And I thought Off-Topic was controversial! Geez, Mike, you really know how to stick your neck out (I'm impressed...).
