Dick played steel guitar on Town Hall Party years ago working with the likes of Johnny Bond, Tex Ritter, Joe Maphis. For a brief time in the early to mid sixties Dick was in San Diego. His steel guitar had masonite, or something similiar, on the front of it. I assumed it was to hide his pedal work. He played some of the greatest pedal licks I had ever heard at the time, along with all the licks that were popular, like the Ralph Mooney rides, etc. The amazing thing was... Dick Stubbs didn't have any pedals. He did it all pulling strings with his fingers. OK. I know what you're thinking. No big deal. We all have known steel players who did, this. But other steel players certainly can tell. On more than one occassion I heard steel players ask Dick what his pedal set-up was. I was around Dick for about a month then he left town and I never heard from or of him again. Dick had an instrumental on the steel guitar instrumental album that has Pete Drake's picture on the cover. Anybody have a clue?

Hey JP, Man I haven't heard that name in years. Dick was quite a steel player. The thing I remember about him also was that he didn't use any fingerpicks either but still got a great sound. You might try Blackie Taylor to see if he knows where he is. Blackie's e-mail address is: btmusic@earthlink.net. ------------------ Have a good one! JH U-12

Hey, Jerry There must be about 4 dozen steelers I've met, besides the well know ones, that I wonder what happened to. I found several here on the Forum. You were one of them. Then there was Smiley Roberts, Al Udeen, and Albert Svenddal, to name a few. All fine pickers. Blackie and I use to sit for hours talking about this and other steel related things so I know he doesn't know about some of them.. I'll post more of these things, though. Hang in there. John Paul

I've heard Jay Dee talk about Dick Stubbs and if I'm not mistaken,I think he said Dick moved to Tulsa many years ago.

Who plays steel for Lorrie Morgan? Also who plays steel for Randy Travis? They both will be performing in our area this summer at the Chautauqua Institution on beautiful Lake Chautauqua (Western New York). Joe
