I was thinking of all the Players that came from Minnesota, and wound up as Nashville Players.Heres a list of Players that either started there careers in Minnesota,or are originally from Mn.
Terry Bethel and Hal Rugg, both played many years at the famous Flame Cafe in Minneapolis. The following are all Minnesota guys...
Steve Byam w/Jo Dee Messina
Mike Cass w/Holy Dunn, Mark Collie and etc.
Wayne Dahl w/ Martina McBride
Jeff Dayton w/ Glen Campbell
Denny Hemingson w/ Tim McGraw
Loren Nelson w/ Tracy Lawrence
Russ Pahl w/ Don Williams,Great Plains
Jay Shupe w/ Johnny Paycheck,Mel McDaniel
CJ Udeen w/ Andy Griggs, Hank the 3rd
I also spent some time there w/ Connie Smith

I hope I havent forgotten anyone, thought it was a pretty impressive number of guys...Al

I'm tellin you Al, that is a pretty impressive list. But, your name should be up at the top with Terry and Hal.

Hi. Al

When you guys were in Nashville picking for the big names there were some pretty great steel pickers still up there. I met a guy from Owatonna, his family owned a Culligan water business there, that plum blew my mind. Don't remember his name but would know it if I heard it. Does this ring a bell? Of course, there was a long list of others.

I sure didn't mean to slight you. I included you in the first list.

I'm not from Mn but I did play at the flame with Eddie Lee, Chill Hilman and a beautiful brunette who's husband played piano. Can't remember her name but she was great. This would have been in the late 60,s early 70,s.I had just quit Dave Dudley (for the 4th time) and stayed in the cities for a few months before returning to Nashville. I'm sure we must have met somewhere along the road.

I'm not from Minesotta, but my wife is. This talk of the Flame club reminds me of a couple of boxes of photos and memorabilia that a friend of mine sent me recently from an estate sale in Minneapollis. Whoever had the boxes was a regular at the Flame club during the late fifties early sixties. There are signed lobby photos and other photos of virtually everyone who Flame Club in that period. Hank Thompson, Bob Wills, George Jones, George Morgan, Dave Dudley, Faron Young to name but a few. It seems to have been THE place to be in Minneapolis back then. Richard, when did you play with Dave Dudley? You may be in a couple of the photos.

Richard! The guy & gal were Rick & Mick Marlo! I would assume that we met back then, However We played a set together at Gabes 5or6 yrs ago! Jay Shupe and myself each played a set on Donna Hammets {sp} Gig. By the way I asume you know Chill Hillman passed on about 4yrs ago. I also want to mention that the best guitar player ever to play in Nashville, {Jim Colvard} was from Mn. being that you worked for Dudley, you know all about him. For the ones not familiar with him, He was the #1 Nashville session player up till his untimely death in 1977.Thats him on Dudleys 6 Days on the Road! He was 17 when that was cut in Mn. He was the first guitar player I worked with wnen I started playing, "Way too many great memories!" My Best To All! Al
