![]() ![]() Not the theme song, I know that was Flatt & Scruggs. But the incidental music. The great twangy guitar whenever the showed the facade of the Commerce Bank of Beverly Hills or whenever Ellie Mae descended the staircase wearing an evening gown. Anybody know who that great guitar player was? |

![]() ![]() I am not absolutely sure, but I think Herb Ellis did that stuff. Again, don't quote me, but I'm almost sure he did. Maybe someone else can enlighten us on this. I'd like to know, too. |

![]() ![]() I have heard that some of the music was played by Joe Maphis. I do know that he played on a lot of tracks in the early days, and was the guitarist on the Thunder Road movie with Robert Mitchem. Mike Jones |

![]() ![]() Actually, the banjo playing was a fellow named Don Parmely, the singer on the theme song was Jerry Scoggins. Flatt & Scruggs only played music on the actual episodes that they appeared on. Don Parmely and his son, David are members of the Bluegrass Cardinals BG Band. ------------------ |

![]() ![]() This is just a shot in the dark, but I remember someone telling me once that Perry Botkin Jr. did some of the guitar work.Herb? Help! |

![]() ![]() I would say the guitar playing might be Perry Botkin or Tommy Tedesco, but that is just an educated guess. I do know for certain that the banjo incidentals were done by Parmeley and another local LA picker named Steve Stevenson. ------------------ |

![]() ![]() I read in Howard Roberts' obituary a few years ago that he played the guitar incidental music on the Beverly Hillbillies. They used that fact to substantiate that everybody had heard Howard Roberts play guitar. A friend of mine used to call it "Ellie Mae sittin' by the side of the pool" music when I'd play pretty chords like that. Sam in AZ |

![]() ![]() Howard may have played on the intro part, which opened each episode. However, as stated previously, Perry B. and also Bob Bain and others played behind the individual episodes. ![]() ![]() The late GREAT Jimmy Bryant told me he had done some of the incidental fiddle work. |
Rich Paton Member Posts: 686 |
![]() ![]() Frank, have you heard Bryant's cut of "Little Rock Getaway"? That was no incident! He just smoked on swing fiddle. Barney Kessel played rhythm guitar on it, I think. It also has an odd-sounding but intriguing mellotron sounding part near the beginning. I wish Jimmy Bryant & Hank Garland had recorded together. I read that they had jammed and/or "slugged it out" in Nashville. What a show that must have been! |

![]() ![]() I could have this a little mixed up, but according to Perry Botkin Jr., by way of Carol Kaye, the early guitar cues were written and played by Perry Botkin Sr. and then into the second season or so they used Bob Bain and others ( I can't remember who..Alan Reuss maybe?)-maybe Howard Roberts and/or Tommy Tedesco, but as I recall the names were older guys..the wave before Tommy T and Howard Roberts. |
