Sitting and watching Doug play this year ar Scotty's was a real treat. His playing is accurate, fast, smooth and great tone. Plus, he is one of the nicest persons to talk to. Thanks Doug for a great show. Enjoyed the Sunday morning Church Service also. Anyone else like Doug's playing? ------------------ |

His new CD, "Jazz by Jernigan", really smokes! Charlie Parker would be proud! [This message was edited by Jim Cohen on 15 September 2000 at 10:13 PM.] |

Doug is one of the few really great players. We were in buiness together for 24 years and are still friends. Doug is truly a gentleman in every respect. ------------------ |

While there are a number of tremendous players who inspire us lesser mortals, the Great Triumvirate (for me, anyway) consists of Paul Franklin, The 'Budmeister', and Doug Jernigan; my friend Van Manakus has a great name for him....'liquid steel' - he's perfect! |

My "Hillbilly Jazz" tape is getting pretty worn out. Hot C6 stuff all over. Great to learn from. |

When I was 19 in 1966 just before being drafted into the army Doug and I did sessions in the Phila. area for a local recording company called Chestnut Records.Doug was in the army stationed at Ft.Dix,N.J. Just before he left for Viet Nam we recorded C Jam Blues on a break during a sesion and I have a copy that the bass player sent me some 30 yrs later.I wouldn't take a million dollars for it and I have always had the highest respect for Doug as a player and a person. |

I would have to agree. I have just about all of Dougs albums. His recent Jazz album is great and has a lot of nice tunes on it. One of my favorites of his was the one he recorded with Bucky Pizzarelli, the 7 string jazz guitar great. Their version of "Honeysuckle Rose" is a classic, in my opinion. |

I would say that Doug suffers from only one thing; he's calm and collected makes it look SOOO easy. Sometimes the players that get the big applause are the ones who strain for the fast runs; Doug is such a master that he doesn't have to; hence I think he is sometimes underappreciated. |

Thanks, so much for your positive comments regarding my work. The new "Jazz By Jernigan" CD was a labor of love that I have wanted to do for several years.. It's good to know others appreciate Jazz as played by a steel guitarist.. |

Doug, Can you tell us which tracks have Van Manakas soloing on them vs the other guitarist? Van always plays the PSGA steel shows every year, so I'd like to know. Thanks, Jim |

Doug, I saw you playing Tue. at the Exit-In with Van Manakus. I was playing there with Terri Clark, and I looked for you after you got done, but couldn't find you. I was hoping to meet you, oh well... That must have been fun. You guys were really smokin'. |

Doug is so cool, he gave a steel guitar seminar in Charleston, WV some years back and played some with our band, he is a super talented and supernice guy, aint it cool how the superpickers like Doug, Paul, Buddy, John, Reece, etc etc are so cool and totally accessible to talk to, as talented as they are they could be a word that rhymes with picks , like so many lesser players I know, but they are totally cool and super nice guys... Thanks again Jim for your compliment regarding my new Jazz CD.Van played on Jordu and Dexterity. He is a super guitar player. Gary Adams played guitar on Limehouse Blues, Lullaby of Birdland, Spring can really hang you up the most, and Doug's Blues. Gary is also another super guitar player. It was a real treat having both players on my CD. Doug Jernigan |

I couldn't agree more with all of you about Doug! Doug I don't know if you remember me from Jerry Hendrix's 50th Anniversary party in Michigan. I was going to put a post on here then, but didn't know how to put things into the right words.I just wanted to say thank's again for the cd. It was fantastic! Most of all I enjoyed talking with you about our military days. Hope to see you again. Thanks Again! Mike |
